Howdy galahad, and another welcome to the forum! Glad to have you with us. :tiphat: There's a wealth of information here, and a ton of great people to get to know.
Wonder if Heinlein (?) had this place in mind when he said "An armed society is a polite society."
Why yes, I believe he was referring to us! :cheers2: :iagree: What part of this great State do you hail from...about, approximately, pretty near?

Thanks for the welcome, guys! I'm from Katy. Well, that's the mailing address but we're actually in Ft. Bend county. Closest town is Fulshear. Most of my on-line time is spent on the SKSboards which I own and operate. We try really hard to be a "family" board like this one but we don't have restrictions on the "hot" topics, religion, abortion, and the like so it does get lively at times.

I saw above that there is a way to check on-line status of the license application. Before I just blunder around the DPS website is there a specific url that I'll need to go to?

You may also want to start a 'timeline' to track your progress through the application process, like myself and a lot of us do. It's a good reminder of how sllooooowwwwwwww the process can be. But I hope yours isn't. All that can be found in the User Control Panel.

Weeellllll? Wadder the guns you posted elsewhere?

USA1 - Thanks for the URL!

I'll head over to the User Control Panel and start investigating.

I was just trying to find out if the picture function worked the same here as on the SMF forums. I bought some Swiss Rubin K-31's a few years ago and one had a totally rusted barrel under the wood. So bad that it was a wall hanger. I used to refinish stocks for a living so I took that one and refinished it to "look like" it was arsenal fresh. In fact it's just a hunk of hardware so I didn't feel bad destroying what collector value it might have had.

Durn it, my server is down........................

Yes! That's the one I was trying to think of. Swiss Rubin K-31's! Not a very common military service rifle at all. Thanks for sharing. Well done! :thumbs2:

Securing my first CHL in Florida took about 45-60 days. My renewal took about three weeks!

My first CHL in Texas took about 60 days (four years ago), and I'm still waiting for the renewal license! :mad5

I submitted a complete package to TX on 8/4/09... and TODAY, the website reads "Application Completed - License Issued or Certificate Active". :banghead:

So... we're going on 80 days... glad I started early! :waiting:

Alright, I got some mail from the DPS today. No plastic (dog-gone it). Military guys need to send some additional information to the DPS. Here's what I got:

"In reviewing your application, it appears that proper documentation was not submitted. Please submit:
1) A copy of your military ID
2) A copy of one of the following: current leave earnings statement, current orders, current pay stub, or a letter from CO
3) A copy of your military pistol qualification scores within the last five years (needed if not showing proficiency with a CHL instructor)"

I did not see anywhere requiring a copy of orders or anything like that when applying under the military fee waiver. So, fellow servicemen take note! :patriot:

I'm retired (within 365days) and only sent a copy of my DD214, no retired ID or retirement pay stub...
How long has it been since you sent your package?
mine's been "processing" since the 16th, i wonder if they would have caught anything by now...?

The wife and I mailed our applications on the same day, 8/29/09. She received her card on 10/22/09. Mine is still "Processing Application."

Now at one time I had a top secret clearance, a BI that would make Obama's look like kindergarten work, and an Honorable Discharge. The wife? No security classification, ever. No military service.

Gee, think that gender might have something to do with it?

I don't know how long mine was 'processing' before they sent me the letter as I never received a PIN. I requested it the same day I received the notice about the missing paperwork. As of today, I'm 'processing' again.

Yeah, you would think with backgrounds like ours (mine is similar) they would look at the application and think "yeah, ok...ISSUED" but no such luck. While I was stationed in North Carolina, I inquired with the Sheriff directly concerning a state law there that allows officers with the power to arrest to carry concealed without a license. As a Coast Guard Petty Officer, I fall under that category. I was told that I would still be required to attend the course before that would apply and I would still probably have issues with the officers if it ever came down to it. He said even a Secret Service agent falls under the same requirement. "Stupid, I know because you all have more strict requirements than we do but that's the law here" he told me.
