By "newbee," I mean those unfortunate enough to be applying for a CHL for the first time during these times, ergo do not have the option of getting the PA license.

I wonder how many new patrol cars Denny Nau, Sheriff is going to be able to buy with all the CHL money he is getting?

Well my experience with attempting to get the PA license was not a good one or even successful........ :???:

After two weeks of not hearing anything, I called them and told them my check had not been cashed and was wondering if the application had been received by them. The nice lady checked and told me they had not received anything from me.

So I filed a lost letter notice with the USPS and figured I would just wait another week or so and reapply.

Then yesterday (27th) I received my self addressed envelope back in my mail box and I figured it was the license. It contained all that I sent to them and another couple of forms. Basically they ran their own national check and had some discrepancy which they did not disclose to me and sent me a form to fill out to clairify various things.

I used to have problems with checks before I got my CHL because there is obviously someone with a similar name and it seems to pop up in these checks. That was one of the reasons that I got a CHL. When I fill out a form I do not put my SSN and I did not put it on the application for the PA license as I figured the copy of my active Texas license was enough for them.

Well it was not and they wanted me to fill out a lengthy form and resubmit everything again. I just shredded all of it and will forget about PA. I don't need their license anyway.

I am just posting this so all will know it is obviously not just as simple as they make it appear (sending DL and current Tex CHL). They run their own checks and you could have some difficulty. Not worthwhile to me to resubmit.

I got mine quickly but I don't have a past history of problems with the instant check system and I filled out the application completely, including SS number and references. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you Alan but on the other hand it's good to know PA runs a quick background check before issuing a license.

Mailed off for My Pa License to carry on July 29, 2009. I received my license in the mail today August 8, 2009. Fast turnaround. I like the fact it adds W. Virginia as I have family there.

You know, you have to love a blue state only taking a week or so when a red state takes months.

Sad, very sad.
Course 5/2
Mailed packet 5/4
Application Processing 6/10
After reprints and all FINALLY 8/5 Plastic!

Remember what Obama said last year about small-town Pennsylvania residents?

"they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion"

Maybe they're clinging even harder now that Obama is President.

I suggest waiting a bit so you have a nice overlap between the two, rather than expiring close together.

I think waiting 2 years is perfect, they should overlap nicely then!
