Finally got the license in the mail today. Did the "Michaels" walk first with the wife followed by the "Wally Walk." Wasn't too nervous, though I'm going to have to tinker with my set-up. P229 wasn't heavy but I think I need to tighten my belt just a bit more to keep it from feeling like it's sagging. Carrying it in a Milt Sparks IWB at about 4:00. I'll probably end up carrying a PPS and a Smith 642 (which I still need to get) as a backup, but until then, I'm just glad to have the license. About 13 weeks from classroom to Wal Mart.
CHL class 4/18/09 (Winchester Gallery, Ft. Worth)
Application sent to DPS 4/21/09
PIN received on or about 6/4/09
Status changed to "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active" 7/15/09
Plastic in wallet 7/22/09
Wally Walk 7/22/09

RAN INTO A PROBLEM!!!

Although my status still says "Processing Application," I got a surprise letter from Austin today claiming my fingerprints were bad. Today has been a long story, but to sum it up, my college didn't fully process my student aid yet and says it won't be done for six weeks, which means I have to scheme up tuition and book money within two weeks and I'm still waiting on them to reimburse me for the summer semester I paid for with my credit card over the same non sense. So, now I have a maxed out student credit card, no job because I'm a full time student, and not enough money to go to school in the fall (and I'm almost done!!!!). Translation: I'm stressed enough and don't have the money or the time to go get new prints. My question: How do I tell DPS to kindly **** off and give me my money back for the application they have been to incompetent to handle?

saber said, About 13 weeks from classroom to Wal Mart.

Well maybe for you in the Dallas area. Here in Harris county it has been 16 weeks already and still processing application.
Did get an e-mail from a lady from Debbie Riddle's office, saying she was calling dps. She wanted my application number. We will see what this gets me. Most likely an e-mail from dps stating how backed up they are. Excuses are like [abbreviated profanity deleted.], everybodys got one. Harris county applicants are tired of hearing excuses. We want results. This is what I get for letting mine expire in 2002. :totap:

Took the class on April 18th. Mailed on the 20th. Been looking at "processing application" and was up to 95 days BUT today when I checked on line it said "Application Complete--License issued." Now we will see how long it takes for me to get it. It will probably come while I am on a week-long family vacation, beginning Saturday. Had the mail stopped. Hope to see it when I get home.

Whatever. Glad it's close to over. Sometimes "closure" is a very elusive thing. I guess I might have a little more patience in my advanced years than some on this forum. I never called or griped and I'm close to done fairly quickly compared to other counties (I'm in Walker County... two counties north of Houston). I took advantage of the senior discount, by the way, so maybe this option does NOT slow things down (as mention on previous posts). I thing the problem here is not only the volume of applications, but the relative population density of various counties and therefore the slowness of background checks. Harris county folks have my sympathy. Too many folks in that area. As we say here in Walker county... "Life's too short to live in Houston!!!"

Thanks, USA1. Kept my nose clean all my life and lived the same place for the last 27 years. That probably helps. Living in "Prison City" might also have attributed on the relatively quick background check. They know how to process this kind of thing pretty fast I would think. Yes, I'm in Huntsville... but on THIS side of the Walls!!!
