On a side note you don't get extra credit for hitting a moving target while qualifying (darn wind messing up my perfect score).
HAHA I know exactly what you mean.

Just dropped mine off in person at the DPS

They had a big sign in sheet of 30 or so temp employees and it was labeled concealed handgun licensing. So they are getting help!

That's encouraging!

I wonder if that phenomena has anything to do with the reporting period ending 8/31/09, and they are wanting to push as many through as they can before end of reporting period. I can't wait until they publish the numbers and compare it to prior years.

From what I've gathered reading through the Waiting Room posts, 30 temps in Austin won't address the delays caused by the background checks in some of the counties (and I'm looking at YOU here, Harris County).
I will add, as a fifth circumstance in the situation of the House of Representatives, restraining them from oppressive measures, that they can make no law which will not have its full operation on themselves and their friends, as well as on the great mass of the society. - J Madison, Federalist #57

time will go by faster if you visit here often, BTW what county do you live in...it might make a difference in your wait time.

Does anyone know if out of state BG checks take any longer because they are out of state?

I used to live in NJ, which means they wont be flooded with CHL applications since it would take an act of God to get one. But im sure they are still affected by hiring freezes, lay-offs, and normal criminal BG checks. I was just wondering if the fact that it is out of state will cause any delay.
01/10/2009 - CHL class
06/16/2009 - Mailed application to DPS
06/18/2009 - Paperwork Received
06/25/2009 - Money Order Cashed
07/15/2009 - PIN Received
09/02/2009 - Application Completed
09/05/2009 - Plastic in Hand
Current Status: License in hand!

While I know it's ridiculous to get antsy this early in the wait, I'm noticing I by others' dates of submitting their apps that I should be receiving my PIN soon. Then maybe I can start griping about seeing "Processing Application" like those that have gone on before me! I know it's not "Plastic In Hand", but I'll be glad to feel like I'm one step closer.
05/30 : CHL Class
06/09 : Packet Mailed
06/19 : Check Cashed
07/18 : Received PIN via email
07/31 : Resubmitted photos
10/6 : Re-resubmitted photos for the 3rd time
11/21: Plastic in Hand
