I think a large part of the problem is the 'date received' part of the equation.

Remember the big flap a few weeks ago when the Texas legislature unplugged the clock at 11:58 PM as they were supposed to have all their business completed by Midnight? Reports indicate that they actually conducted business until almost 3:00 AM.

So, your packet arrives in Austin, along with many more. My guess is that if they are backed-up, it is simply placed in a pile to be worked later. When it moves from this waiting pile (may take a few weeks or maybe a month), your actual 90 days start.
If the 2nd admendment only applies to muskets and muzzle-loaders, then the 1st admentment must apply only to the spoken or printed word. Printing must be done on hand presses, news stories must be written in longhand, no keyboards or electric processes may be used.

Hello everyone,

First time post here, some background, Completed my CHL class in Jan 09, submitted packet 1st week of Feb (rcvd by DPS Feb 3), one hiccup with paperwork, still no license. Called today to check on status today and was told "waiting on background check from Galveston/Harris Co." no time frame. So I decided to check on here to see what was going on and found all the problems and wait time from Harris Co. very dissappointed to say the least. To tell the truth after thinking about it I was not that suprised if you have ever seen or dealt with the Harris/Galveston Co Goverment employees you know what I mean-useless> At least I have a place to go and share my misery and vent once in awhile.-Thanks in advcance :tiphat:

Welcome Lt.Troy! Glad to have you with us.

If you've read through some of the threads....yes, it appears that Harris Co. is a slowdown on the background checks...I'm sorry to say. I'm biding my time to take my course slated for 17 July.

Took my chl class 1/3/09, mailed 1/8/09 with pin and still waiting. Finally DPS to tell me hold up was Harris/Galveston county. Called Harris County Clerk and was given the best blow off I have ever recieved. I have heard that Harris has one person working on background checks, if so I guess I'll watch paint dry until it finally gets here.

Most online forums have a lull on summer weekends. Everybody is out doing something or just taking it easy. It has been that way as long as I have been using forums.

Same here.. unless I have something specific planned... I like to try to take it easy on weekends.
I was outside in that sun all this week... ugh. I'll stay indoors this weekend if I can help it :)

Well figured I'd post here, I see some have been waiting along time. I'm just barely past the month mark, hope my county is faster than Harris, I need to call the lady in the DPS office here see if she's gotten mine yet

Log-in failed so I called and was told BG was finished and application has been sent to the technicians---whatever that means?
Application mailed in 4/16/2009

Any thoughts on what is happening at the "technicians" desk?
