It has the ability to, since they are complaining that only commisioned officers can do the BG checks, and that is the reason for the delay.

Whether they will actually assign any staffers to do them, once they are able, is a completely different question :rolll

Finally -------- woooo hooooo

Well guys/gals after calling and emailing dps several times with nothing but the "still processing" or waiting on background check. I finally called Mario Gallegos, Jr. office and she gave me this number 512-424-5721 which is Ms. Jane Coffey. Talked to her and gave her my info --- she called back about 30 minutes later and said she was putting it in the mail -- next day ups delivered it.

Maybe the e-mail to the gov had some effect. I got this e-mail:
This is in response to your e-mail correspondence, referred from the Governor's Office to this Department, concerning your application for a license to carry a concealed handgun. As you may be aware, the Department has received a record volume of applications in the last several months; although the Department is utilizing all available resources, this volume has caused delay in processing all applications in a timely manner. However, your application has been processed now and your license was mailed on June 3, 2009.

If you have any further questions, please contact me personally at jan.coffey@txdps.state.tx.us.

Sincerely,

Jan Coffey, Manager

Concealed Handgun Licensing Bureau

I mail a lot of stuff across this great state of ours and it takes two/three days to get where its going.... five at the very most. I suppose the record volume of applicants slows down their outgoing mail too? So a minimum of 7 days in the mail, if it shows up tomorrow, makes one just scratch his head. I suppose if nothing else DPS is consistent.... slow!

Finally, plastic in hand! :clapping:

Mailed packet: 1/19/2009.
PIN Letter Dated: 2/23/2009
Received plastic: 6/10/2009

From other posts, it looks like it's taking Houston/Galveston folks at least a month longer.

Took my class 1/3 at marksman shooting range and sent to DPS 1 week later.
Still processing as of 6/11/09. Have called many times only to be told what I can read on the DPS site. Any suggestions?

Well I think I finally made some progress. I e-mailed and called and some one there called to see what was holding up the BG check. It seems that is all it took and they just called me back saying that it is taken care of and being sent to the printer. I guess 19 weeks from sending the app in is just about the length of time it takes them to start thinking they should get to work.
