Re: January Applicants
I'm on day 82 now. I had a hiccup because of some residency date issues but that has been cleared up since March 16th. I was told end if April, early May.
The wait is killing me!

Re: January Applicants
All set, the US postal service actually forwarded the plastic! DPS did reply to my change of address email but didn't get it done.
All the same, I changed my address this morning and I am legal again!
My "Wally walk" will be at dinner tonight. I hope the processing time is good for all of you!
Be safe!

Re: January Applicants
Do I have a story for you. I paid online in November 9 and did the renewal class 11/11 waited till December and called DPS who said the packet was mailed 2 weeks earlier. They verified my address and sent another packet and said I should have it within 10 days. 15 days go by and I called again. They showed 2 packets had been sent. They verified address again and sent another and said 10 days. January is here and no packet. Called again, sent another Arrived January 11th sent out (arrived at DPS on 17th). 2 days after the first packet arrived 2 more showed up. Got to love the mail. January 25th expired and waiting. Finally April 10th website says complete and issued. Now if the mail will do its part I'll be packing again . And one packet is still out there somewhere.
US mail came through!! Plastic in hand April 16th.
Dont renew online.

Re: January Applicants
Dunno. Your best bet would be to talk to DPS by telephone and ask them. A felony conviction is generally a bar to getting a license.usa1 wrote:hi, this is my very first time on any forum. but i have a question about eligability. 1985 charged with burglary of a building,i took deferred adjudication.does anyone know if that disqualifies me.
I would also talk to an attorney about the matter (and no, I am NOT trying to drum up business here -- just being safe). In any event, you probably need to include information about the conviction in your application (which you acknowledge, under oath, as being true and accurate). This would include the cause number of the case, your conviction date, the county in which you were convicted, the sentencing date, and the date upon which you completed your sentence.
While felony convictions generally bar one from licensing, Texas Govt. Code 411.1711 states "A person is not convicted, as that term is defined by Section 411.171, if an order of deferred adjudication was entered against the person on a date not less than 10 years preceding the date of the person's application for a license under this subchapter unless the order of deferred adjudication was entered against the person for an offense under Title 5, Penal Code, or Chapter 29, Penal Code." Title 5 of the Penal Code deals with crimes against a person (assault, battery, etc.); Chapter 29 is devoted to robbery and aggravated robbery. On its face, your conviction is outside these two realms, and, presuming the accuracy of the information you have provided, would not bar you from obtaining your license.
This is not intended to be legal advice -- again, you need to consult with an attorney who agrees to take you on as a client. If you would like me to talk further with you, drop me an email. Best of luck to you.
