DPS Status Website Secure? CORRECTION

#1

Post by mxpereztx »

After getting my letter and pin I decided to check the website out. After putting my SSN DOB TXDL and pin I noticed that the website was not secure. I cleared everything and called the toll free number. I asked the C Serv person about the website and was told they had no information about it. I asked her to inquire about it. That was three months ago. I have used several DPS secure web pages before such as the DL renewal of change of address and they are secure. Anyone else noticed this?
Just received my CHL after over 180 days!

Correction: Just checked and the site comes up secure..

The site is secure, just put the "s" behind the http in the url or if you use the normal javascript it processes the request as a secure communication.

No one has to see it, the site is set so that if you follow it under normal conditions when you submit your data it is transferred through https and not http. If you notice they use a javascript to make the change to secure when you submit your data. It can be deceiving if you don't know it's going to make the secure change, but as I pointed out you can manually make it secure before the javascript makes the change.

http://www.texasonline.state.tx.us/NASA ... ctTask.jsp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Just click on "Track the Status of your Application" on the top right.

If you completed your application online and they mailed it to you, you should have received your PIN. If not, wait for it to arrive by e-mail or snail mail.

I must admit I feel foolish for not consciously checking the https. But after following the links from an initial google search for "texas chl", but the time I was at a page prompting me for info it was https. The form the submissions were sent to were https as well.
