And the wait continues...

#1

Post by ArmedTeacher »

Hello to all of you out there in the wide world of the internet! Just thought I'd take a minute to introduce myself. I've been looking at this site quite frequently before submitting my paperwork to the DPS and thought it was time I actually contributed. I'm an elementary school teacher in the DFW area. I drive a ways across the metroplex to get to work and have to travel through some rough neighborhoods to get there. I think now that I'm living in Texas, the time has come to fully realize my right to defend myself and my family where ever it is we go. This is why I've applied for my CHL. Having grown up in Southern California, this right had been stripped from me as it is a may issue state and I never had a good enough reason according to the them.

I applied online, received the paperwork within about a week to returned it on March 26, 2006 via certified mail and got my PIN about a week after that. As of April 15, 2008, I'm on the processing application side of things according to the DPS website. We'll see how much longer it is.

You might want to read, several times, the law; particularly, as it applies to concealed carry on or near school property.

Good luck.

I have read, re-read, and re-re-read the statutes regarding carrying on or near a school. With a CHL, as the other gentleman stated, I'm legal up to the school house door. I do, however, wish that the legislature could identify a legal way for me to carry inside the school house where we are sitting ducks in the event of a major situation. I have been at schools before where shots were fired during dismissal and really, you do feel like a duck out in the open. I have been through lockdown situations with a gunman near the school, and again those old ducky feelings came back. I really hate that I am forced to give up my right to self defense on walking through those school house doors.

And then what?

As far as I'm concerned, his weapon/s should be openly displayed on his desk during classes and he/she should be free to use them on an as needed basis; however, that's not the :rules:

Again, good luck.

Thanks for the welcome! If wishes were horses, beggars would ride. I can only hope that someday we'll all come to our senses and realize that our personal protection is up to us.

Thanks OG! I think I'd prefer it on my hip where I have more control over it. Too many of these kids aren't taught about firearms safety and I'm not allowed to get into, much like several other topics. Those of us on this forum truly understand how defenseless schools really are when they have no active police or security officers stationed on campus. I wonder, if I became a reserve police officer, could I then open carry on campus?

Congratulations Ed! I can only hope that mine will arrive shortly. It seems to be taking around 80 days at this point. I should have about another 2 weeks! :banghead:
