Go here: https://www.dps.texas.gov/rsd/contact/default.aspx
Select "handgun licensing" & make the next selection. A form will open where you can send them an "email". Scroll down near the bottom and you will find the telephone number.

Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence. - John Adams
Re: "Waiting Room"
This site is tough to figure out with regard to creating topics. Mine has to do with the Medical Advisory Board forms and process.
I placed myself in a 90 treatment program for substance use 9+ years ago and to be 100% honest on my CHL form, I listed my successful completion of the program. 3 months later I got my MAB notice and a few days after that, I got my forms to have filled out by a doctor.
Since this was a decade ago, I simply used my family doctor whom I've seen regularly for 7 years. He was happy to have me stop in for a brief visit and fill out my forms which he faxed in to the number provided on the medical form, and for back-up he mailed in the originals in the provided envelop.
So now I'm in a holding pattern. The only data on the MAB I can find says that they meet "every other week" to evaluate those in Texas with "drivers restrictions". Nothing is mentioned about how often they meet for CHL medical form approvals. Perhaps it's during the same bi-weekly meeting. I did find one old thread on here about a guy like me who had his forms filled out by a local shrink whom he didn't know beforehand, and he got his approval status about 2 weeks later.
Has anyone else gone down this road? There seems to be very little about it online other than the same old "cut and pastes" of the "rules" and "regulations" but no real stories of hope and/or success.
I took my CHL class the last weekend in May of 2016, had my MAB forms sent in 2 weeks ago, and I'm still in the "under review" status on the info page.
I'm looking forward to getting my final status update. The wheels of progress turn at a mind bogglingly slow pace. But I understand why, and am happy to wait. I just hope I get approved and don't have to jump through any more hoops for something nearly 10 years old and done on my own...
Once I get a result, I'll post it here in case there are others like me out there wondering what does and doesn't happen, and how long things can take.

Just scroll to the bottom of the page. You can send a secure email or call them.

uthornsfan wrote:Dire, I went to the DPS site and followed the link to the CHL info page. There is a contact number for CHL stuff specifically, but they never seem to answer the phone. I called early (when they opened) and after 20 minutes on hold I got someone. They were unable to tell me anything about the process other than what was posted online._Dire_Wolf wrote:How do I find a telephone number for the DPS. Re: "Waiting Room"
I called, got the automated call back message. I immediately called back and got put in the hold queue. I was on hold for atleast 10-15 minutes, I was working so I didn't keep track, I just hung up on my co-worker when DPS picked up

My timeline:
7/11 Application sent
7/12 Fingerprints done
7/16 Took class and submitted all supporting documents
7/25 Status change all green except fingerprints and background review
9/26 asked RSD a question about my fingerprints being still not completed, since it had been 60 days and got the generic copy pasted response
I replied to the email asking about my fingerprints and have not heard any response.
Update 10/12 Sent through RSD again since I did not receive a reply. I asked about the fingerprints again. I recieved an email saying that according to their records my application is being processed. Which is a waste of an email. They keep avoiding answering my question about my fingerprints in order. Any recomendations?
Background- in last 5 years have lived in 3 different apts due to rent increases after 1st year.
5 and a half years ago had a deferred adjudication on hitting a guardrail. I provided case numbers agency and all supporting information to make it easier to check out.

Re: "Waiting Room"
Thanks! I have to go buy my holster, didn't think it was going to process that fast
Re: "Waiting Room"
Well, I'm coming up on 90 days and It looks like everyone else is getting theirs around 3 weeks. I've called twice to see if there was a problem, and requested that someone contact me. They just unload the canned answer. I've emailed twice requesting the same and haven't heard a peep. I have no criminal history, lived here for 2 years and don't have a John Smith kinda name. I sent off my paperwork to Arizona today for a non-resident CWP and I bet I have a license to carry from them before anyone admits that there was a glitch and I fell through the cracks at Texas DPS. I'd much rather have one from my home state, but maybe it will show up about the time the AZ one expires.
Re: "Waiting Room"
