Re: "Waiting Room"
The Texas LTC background investigation is much more extensive than the NICS check. Physical-mental-criminal-financial etc for a total of right at 21 items investigated per applicant. Not all of which is computerized. The wait clock starts once all items have been received. Just an observation from people posting here, if you're all in date and no disqualifiers the turn around is running 40-48 business days- 75-90 calender days. I'm aware of the statutory 60 day issue/contact requirement, just telling you my observation. Some are issued quicker, some are taking longer.PhilBob wrote:Since I am now at 65 calendar days, all in 3/14, and am seeing a number of people who were all-in in February and March already getting their plastic, I am a little concerned. I am in two categories getting additional scrutiny due to Obama executive orders. They are trying to exclude issuing licenses to social security recipients "if they lack the mental capacity to manage their own affairs" and veterans, citing PTSD issues. I do receive Social Security and am a Vietnam vet but manage my own finances and, fortunately, have never suffered from PTSD. I suspect that additional scrutiny may be adding to my waiting time and as one who isn't and shouldn't be disqualified for either reason I am getting frustrated as my NICS check when buying my gun prior to these additional criteria went through in just a couple of minutes.
There are states that if you have no arrests and no warrants- here's your carry license. There are states with constitutional carry. Texas is not one of these states. The Texas Legislature set the strict guidelines for issuance.
Good Luck

Re: "Waiting Room"
3 of us seniors took the course and applied for an LTC at approximately the same time
01/09/2016 - CHL-100 @Southern Guns, David Laviolette CHL Instructor
01/11/2016 7:25 PM - This email confirms you have submitted an online application
01/12/2016 11:36 AM - We have received your License To Carry supporting documents. Please allow up to six weeks for processing. [CHL-100]
01/15/2016 4:44 PM - IdentoGo Service Confirmation - TX Personal Review
01/15/2016 4:44 PM - IdentoGo Service Confirmation - TX License to Carry
01/21/2016 - Received Certification of Criminal History [No criminal history] (TX Personal Review copy)
04/06/2016 Received letter from DPS, course instructor's license expired
04/07/2016 Mailed in new CHL-100 (dated 4/2/2016), mine sans letter, the other two with letter
04/11/2016 RSD received my new CHL-100
05/06/2016 Web site changed for the other two
05/06/2016 One received his license
05/09/2016 the other received his license
05/18/2016 Web site changed for me
05/19/2016 I received my license
YAY - all three of us have received our licenses - I give up my seat in this thread -
The only tip I would offer future applicants is to mail in information rather than apply online - as I've read through this thread, it seems that those who mailed in their information received their licenses several weeks ahead of us that applied online -
Lastly, a huge thanks to the folks on this thread - y'all sure helped reduce my anxiety over what seems like a forever wait -
Larry

Re: "Waiting Room"
Getting the runaround from the RSD, not sure what I can do or who I can contact for help with this, if anybody at all. I live in south Austin so it is not looking good.
Original all in date was 2/16/16
Uploaded additional documents 2/25/16
First call: 8 weeks ago: was told that the original start date of the 2/16/16 would be kept as the all in date.
Second Call: 6 weeks ago: Was told that the application was in background check and it could take two to three weeks.
Third Call: 2 weeks ago and was told that the all in date was the 25th and I should see results within 60 business days (yesterday). I could live with this and I fully understand the RSD using the date of the 25th after all of the documents have been received.
Called today: Was told that all documents were uploaded into there system on the 4/23/16 and it would be 12 weeks from that date. What? Where did the date of 4/23/16 come from?
Where is it in the rules that the issuance of a license or a letter of denial shall be issued from the date at which the Department decides to upload the documents? I didn't ask that, it was what I was thinking. Figured if I said that then all of a sudden all of my documents have been lost or something like that.
I did say "so you are telling me the end of July?" And the reply back was "yes but not all applications are taking the full 12 weeks", And yet I am being told that my application process is know looking at 25 weeks, Basically 6-months.
I don't want to call a state rep, senator or the Governor's office. But I am seriously running out of patients here. I would rather get a denial letter and have a hearing in 30 days, it is better than 12 additional weeks.
I really think that I have been very patient, but this is just ridiculous.

Wow! If I was in your position I would give your state representative a call and see what they can do for you. You are being treated very poorly and there is no reason for it. If the state rep's office contacts the RSD you will receive a call from someone at the RSD that will let you know what is going on with your application. Make sure that you get a contact telephone number so that if things don't go as planned you can get back to the same person.JoCannonIV wrote:Getting the runaround from the RSD, not sure what I can do or who I can contact for help with this, if anybody at all. Re: "Waiting Room"
Hi everyone,
I've been following this thread for the last month or so and thought I'd provide my experience now that I (finally) got my license. Here was my timeline:
Class: 3/12
Application submitted: 3/13
Confirmation e-mail: 3/13
Fingerprinting: 3/15
I received absolutely no contact after that (including calls or e-mails saying that my license was being printed). I sent an e-mail at about the 60-day mark asking to ensure that all of my documents had been received. The response was essentially a direct copy/paste form the FAQ on the RSD website and didn't actually address my questions. Then...
Status change online: 5/19
License in hand: 5/19
So just over two months for me. My application was straightforward as I have no arrests, criminal convictions, medical issues, etc.. I'm in the Dallas area.
Best of luck to those still waiting.

License In Hand!!
Recap: Class 3/6/16
All in 3/15/16
Plastic 5/19/16
I didn't check my status but once before this week. Didn't know what the status change was until this week. When I checked it had changed, not knowing it had LOL. Mine was a straight forward process, no extra documents needed.

So last night with encouragement from my wife, I decided to email my State Representative Donna Howard in regards to the timeline and the different stories the RSD keeps giving me.brooklyn wrote:Wow! I really don't have a whole lot of faith that she will be instrumental in expediting the process or getting to the bottom of the issue. After I climbed into bed it was just eating away at me, So I decided to visit Governor Greg Abbott's web site and request help from his office.
Received an email from the Office of the Governor this morning stating that they are asking the Director of Public Safety for his staff's assistance in reviewing and responding both to me and their office.
Pretty quick response from the Governors office, really didn't want to have to reach out to anybody and ask for help with the application process. However, I don't think that I am being treated fairly by the RSD. I could just sit back and continue to wait or requested help, I have waited long enough.
All in all, I just want to be treated fairly. I do not think that is to much to ask.

Well just received an email from my State Representatives office as well. So we shall see, looks as though both are in communication with the DPS.bdr518 wrote:That's all anyone can ask.JoCannonIV wrote:All in all, I just want to be treated fairly. I do not think that is to much to ask.

I spoke to the lady in the MAB section and she confirmed my paperwork was received. She also said the MAB will meet middle of next week and to give her a call at the end of the week to find out what they determined. Very nice lady and seemed organized.
