90 days and not holding my breath

#1

Post by Batman »

All in on 1/28. Called today and a nice lady said it went to background check on the 13th of this month, please alow up to 6 weeks for completion. I said, and then I get it? . No, it has a few more steps to go through afterwards. We will notify you when it's done. They should change there time line to 6 months. 60 days? Bologna! At least we can still carry in our vehicle. My advice is to send application in long before you want the license and maybe you will get a surprise in the mail one day. :waiting:

I am not sure if this will help, but I called DPS yesterday at 5124247771 and a lady called me back within 2 hours and gave me a status update. It's a little suspect because everyone who seems to call gets that same update. 7-10 days to process because my background check came back. It's worth a shot since you've been waiting so long.

If you get anything said other than that please update us. I'm curious to see if this number is better or just another ploy to get us to stop calling RSD/DPS.

I was all in a day after you. I received a letter in march saying i didn't do my finger prints and called the next day. They confirmed they had them. Called last week and they said they were having problems with my prints. Still no letter in the mail saying I need to reprint. Wait and see I guess.

A little after my 60 day mark I called this number and spoke to a gentleman that looked up my app and my wife's and found that the background checks were back and they were just waiting for final processing. He passed them on to someone to get them completed and on to print. He told me 7-10 days depending on mail time. This was on a Tuesday and our plastic was in our hands on Monday. It worked for us.

BTW they do not mail directly from Austin. Each batch goes to a company in San Antonio that puts them in envelopes and actually mails them out. That probably takes a couple of those 7-10 days.

I just took my class and am doing my fingerprints on Wednesday. From what I've been reading, I won't get my license until August. For such a pro-gun state, why does it take so long?

Thanks for your confirmation. I was told the same. Hopefully I'll receive mine soon too. That's good news. I will pass it along.

It takes a long time because of the influx in recent applications. Between December of 2015 and February of 2016 they received 139,000 applications. That's a huge increase due considering the year before they received 59,000. They are horribly understaffed and it does not help whatsoever that people who are waiting are constantly calling in to get a status update.

I hope you wait isn't too long, give them their 60 days by law then I would call to inquire

Thanks vjallen75. I believe the 7771 number is more helpful. They answered the phone right away. I talked to a lady who was understanding and helpful. She gave me her direct number and told me to call back in a week if I had not heard anything. All in conformation date is 1/29. I will post when I receive my LTC. Good luck to all.

I was all in by March 2 (took the course Feb. 27) , today my status finally changed. Now I can see the Change information choices, before all I would see was the Instructor certification option. It's been about 8 weeks or so now, hopefully it will be on it's way to me real soon.

100 days. Finally got a letter requesting information about an arrest when I was 17. 26 years ago possession of prohibited weapon. Big fireworks are illegal. I thought that was not on my record anymore. You must disclose everything. Submitted the information and dismissal paperwork today. The wait continues.

I was called by two students (brothers) who said they applied March 8th and both received LTC on wed and thurs last week. Hopefully that is a good sign or maybe good luck struck twice in the same place.

FWIW, my renewal was pretty much 6 weeks on the nose. Just as they told me. I know things are a bit slower for new cards, but there ya go.

I think one thing to take into consideration is how common your name is.
I went with 2 friends to take the class.

One of my friends received his license after 90 days all in.
According to whitepages.com there are 833 people in Texas with his exact last name.

I received mine after 65 days all in.
According to whitepages.com there are 69 people in Texas with my exact last name.
