After emailing my state rep, I got a call today from RDS... I am approved, and it should be about 4 weeks from now...

um, really, I said. The initial email said 6 weeks (the confirmation of documents that i received on 21 Jan).

The RDS rep told me they were backed up to 12 weeks now and I could receive it anytime, but it would likely take 4 more weeks. It needs to be input into the system and printed...

Rep replied and stated that he had reached out to DPS to find the status of my app. DPS called shortly thereafter and told me that they had my file and it would probably be mailed on Friday or Monday. They have some staff working a half day on Friday due to the holiday.

Same timeline my friends:

Online Application December 29
CHL/LTC Class Jan 3.
Fingerprints Jan 4.
Docs submitted by email and email confirmation on Jan. 4.
To date, no status change, no plastic. I do hear crickets though.

It seems those of us who submitted electronically on Jan. 4 got the weak link at RSD. Several friends of mine who took the class with me submitted later, and/or by mail, and already have their plastic. I do have a very clean record.

I have contacted my state representative to address the problem of the randomness. I don't like waiting, but that is not the biggest issue. It's a bit luck of the draw and that is a problem. It takes 15 minutes for me to clear a background check to buy a handgun, but we'll see how long for my "license to carry." My rep is in favor of removing the process altogether or at least just adding a notation to the driver's license.

I am glad for those who are getting their licenses though! Stay safe! :patriot:

The timeline I posted is the actual timeline, and like I stated in my post, email them at that link on the website and ask them to please expedite your license. They will do that, the lady I talked to the only time I called stated that the one reason they are taking so long is that the applications get sent off to the background check personnel in large groups, therefore when that group is completed then it moves on to the next step in the process. In other words, if your application completed the background check, you have to wait until the others are approved or denied to move forward in the process. If you email them and communicate with them, they will pull your application from that group and do it individually which will result in yours being finished quicker. If you don't communicate with them, they will just put yours aside and must finalize the others in the same stack as yours which from what I'm seeing on here and reading on the others posts seems to be the problem. Communication is key.
I have emailed them 3 times over the last 2 month and have never got any reply.

Based on a 6 week wait, looks we are about "halfway"
I'm expecting them to come between April 11 and 29. What's your thoughts on that?

Hi all. Just a quick update. I finally got a call back from the DPS Director's inquiry I made yesterday. Got a call at 8 PM from a RSD Supervisor. She was very nice. She was apologetic and re-looked over my stuff. Her eyeball told her everything looked good and she then indicated that they had just begun processing the bulk of applications from the w/o Jan 11-15. I should be somewhere in this batch. She gave me her personal desk number and told me to call back inside of a week and that I should have been processed/approved by then. She says it's taking about 7 days from approval to doorstep at this point. Hopefully in the next 2 weeks.

I was all in on January 15th. (68 days). My target "plastic in hand" date is 82 days, or 4/4/16 (if all goes well). We shall see. She was BY FAR the most responsive person I've dealt with in this whole process.

I think the majority of people (not all) are getting theirs before 12 weeks. We'll see an 80+ day every now and then, but for the most part 6 - 8 weeks "after email confirmation" is about the norm for a shiny record. I have 2 friends that did theirs in the middle of January, and they have received their plastic already. I also work with a guy that did his at the end of January, and his status just changed recently. Some of these stories were hearing of it taking 80+ days, could possibly be because of all the recent holidays, some could of started counting when they registered on the DPS site, and not when the DPS confirmed their email.
And also, I think their telling people over and beyond the actual date. Their doing that so we don't call the day when the 6 weeks period is up complaining we didn't receive it like we were promised. I mean, that's what I would do if I was them...right?
