I'm new to the forum, and new to Texas as well, having moved from Missouri this past summer. I certainly appreciate this forum, and the quality of the contributions.
I'm waiting for my LTC as well, so I thought I'd post my timeline.
LTC Class - 12/19/15
Initial registration on DPS - 12/29 (was waiting for my new TX DL to arrive)
Fingerprints: 1/4/16
Document submission and confirmation with DPS: 1/5/16
Spoke to DPS today, and they confirmed receipt and in-process status, advised 2 - 3 more weeks. Looks consistent based on the timeline posts I've been reviewing - hopefully it's soon. I'm looking forward to receiving my license.

Re: Timeline
What number and extension did you use to get through to DPS? I just get a recording that they are too busy to answer

Re: Timeline
I called the number listed on the website. If you log in and check your status, at the bottom of the page, the number given is (512) 424-7293. I was surprised they answered, but the lady was friendly and helpful - took the time to find my application and provide status. Good luck.

Re: Timeline
Update: Confirm email 1/5/16 and still no plastic.
Got through to the DPS Tuesday - same story: waiting for background check. No commitment. "Wait another 30 days, then call us back".
I emailed State Rep. Scott Turner Wednesday through his website, and cited delays, 60-day statute, inability to contact, and the integrity of the processing queue (applications submitted later already approved). His assistant called me this morning and asked me to complete a casework authorization form. He will inquire directly with DPS and either he will call me back, or the DPS will call me back. It's nice that someone acted like they cared...

Re: Timeline
Update:
Last week I wrote my state rep - Wednesday. Received a phone call Thursday and he said he would make the call to their 'inside' line at DPS. He did so, and then called me back Friday a.m. to tell me that someone from DPS would be calling me. Monday I received that call - apparently the supervisor of the 21 processors they have. He said that my application date was 12/29, and they were working on 12/28, so it should happen in the next couple days.
Tuesday I happen to receive a call from DPS who was actually calling in response to my email from a couple weeks ago requesting status. She said my app is in background check, and she figured it would processed in the next two weeks....
Interesting update on their volume (per the supervisor). Historically, they received from 500 to 800 applications PER DAY (I really think he meant per week). Over the last several months, they'd been averaging 15,000 - 20,000!! Since their operating budget is set about 2 years in advance, they don't have funding to add any people, so all their folks are working overtime trying to keep up. Again - they have 21 processors. Background checks are performed by a 3rd party.
So the wait continues.

Thanks for posting.
Sent my paper work in Mid February.
I am thinking that I won't receive the plastic until June.
