First Time Applicant - Is online status check broke?

#1

Post by Samantha_b011 »

This is my first time applying for a CHL/LTC. Yup virgin applicant
I'm wondering what's the average wait time? There's nothing in my past to hold up the process...

Female 26yrs old Dallas - pretty squeaky clean record. Only time I have been in trouble is two tickets. One for going 7mph over limit & another for making a left turn (I thought it was a double turn lane)

Took CHL Test Oct 5th

Sent CHL passed test, application and payment online Oct 6th

Fingerprinting Oct 8th

Hoping to get it by Christmas as I'm looking at a Glock 43 as a gift to myself :)

This is what my status says since day 1, its never changed.

CHL APPLICATION STATUS: If you have a pending CHL application, please allow sufficient time for processing. If you have not already done so, please submit all of the items listed on the checklist you received. DPS will notify you by mail if further information or additional documents are required.
Start Application

Select the application you would like to complete at this time.

Apply for Instructor Certification (to teach CHL courses)

My status says the same thing. I called DPS and was told my application is in the background check phase. DPS made a clerical error on mine that cost me a month due to no fault of my own. You online status page is correct for an app that has not been fully processed yet.

There is no rhyme or reason to the process it seams. I submitted all my info on 9/22 and it took 50 days for the website to change, 52 days to plastic in hand. My boss and I were in the same class, but he did not get his prints in until 10/05 and had plastic in hand 10/28. :confused5

Similar for my wife and I as well. We did our class on 9/11, application 9/20, and fingerprints on 10/08. I had my card on 10/24, she got hers last week on 11/12. Don't know why hers took longer than mine to process.

Just keep checking daily for the page to change, you'll get a few more options on the screen when your license gets issued.

Don't mean to hijack the thread; however, do valid other clearances help speed up the process (i.e. TWIC, etc.)?

Thank you in advance.

It might. I'm active duty and that may have had something to do with the processing time as well.

Samantha, thanks for posting this. ChildV, female aged 24, passed her class on 29 August. Finished her online application and fingerprinting in mid September. Her online status is identical to yours. ChildV, unlike her dad, is extremely patient.

Does your status window have the "Change Information" section to the right like the status in the attached picture?

If so, then that should indicate that your license has been issued and will be on it's way.

My license was received ~3 weeks after all supporting information was sent. I called the regulatory services division weekly and asked if they had begun processing my license and if they could give me an update. On the Monday of the third week they said that it hadn't started processing but that they would flag it as ready to process. The license arrived on Saturday that same week. Not saying that it will go that quickly in every case. Apparently they are sent for printing in batches. I apparently was lucky that mine processed right before a batch were printed otherwise I could have waited another couple weeks apparently.

Hello Alllsji,

No, there is not a change section when I log in. Seems the best way to get correct information is to call in so I may just do so tomorrow. I just figured with no arrest or issues that I would be in the batch that gets processed fast especially since everything was electronicly. I do hate waiting. I will keep you updated when it comes. Thanks for all the replys. ;-)

Just keep in mind that DPS recently asked to not call unless it had been more than 30 days since everything has been submitted. My wife had heard that message earlier last week when she called (had been more than 30 days) on the recording before going on hold. My guess is that they have been getting a lot of calls lately.

jcbreer - have you called about your status ? Was there a problem with your app or additional information requested ? If not, that is well past the dealine - I thought they had to issue you or deny you(or request additonal information) within 60 or 90 days ?

Thanks for asking the question Samantha! I had the same question and was wondering if I did everything correctly because I got the same message.

Glad my company doesnt allow me access to the site to check your status (oddly I can get on here though!), otherwise I would be driving myself crazy checking it for an update every two minutes.

The website does not update until they actually issue the license, it will then you give you option to change address, etc. Other than that per DPS it will not change. TWIC, Security Clearance doesn't seem to make a difference from talking to friends that are both civilian, veteran and current military. Timelines all seem to be all over the place.
