Hey all,

I am in Korea and am having problems with my net. Everytime I go to google.com i get google.co.kr and its all in Korean. Also, when I try to go to http://www.us.army.mil" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; it says that I my connection is bad...I know its not. I also know there is a way to make it go to the .com pages as opposed to automatically making it .co.kr HOW DO I CHANGE THIS? It is driving me up a wall and I am a computer idiot so I am lost.

Also, I am a country boy so please type slow...I dont read so fast "rlol"

Thanks all!

Try locating a US based Proxy and try bouncing everything through that. It sounds as if your hitting some sort of filter.

http://proxy.org/cgi_proxies.shtml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's called geolocating ;)
The companies like Google and MSN and such are doing it themselves, it has nothing to do with your connection.

Google sees that you're connecting from a Korean IP address, and gives you a Korean Page.
Normally, near the bottom of the page, or somewhere else on it, is an option to change your language. You can sometimes save it, and it sets a cookie, thereby giving you the right page from then on.

Try this page: http://google.com/ncr" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
(NCR stands for 'No Country Recognition')
If it loads a normal, plain, non-Korean page, then is it geolocating. If you still get a Korean page, see below.

If it's not the above, then it could either be intentional DNS Redirection, or a proxy. If it's a forced proxy, there's not much you can do about it, other than making and going through your own proxy.
You can try manually changing your DNS server to something like 4.2.2.1, which is based in the US, and should resolve everything. Google 'changing DNS Server' on instructions on how to set this manually.

As far as the .mil not working, that could be the DNS issue above, or it could be the US military plain out blocking connections from certain countries, ip address blocks, etc.

Yea, if Google worked, you're being geolocated. Not much you can do about it for pages that don't allow you to select something other than their default page for that country. As I said, there should be a link there somewhere to change your language or locale. Might need to get a Korean to help you find it though :thumbs2:

Have you tried finding a US proxy? As suggested by the first reply. A proxy address would allow you to pretend you are in the USA. You should then see all pages just as if you were in the USA.
