Limited Tin source at Grainger.com

#1

Post by Doc K »

I've been collecting wheel weights(90 pounds so far) to cast my own bullets.

I just bought 6 spools(6lbs) of 97% tin solid wire solder from grainger.com. (Item #1ZHW2)(Limited supplies)
2 day delivery time.(today)
Tax, shipping and $7 per spool brings the cost to about $9 per pound for the tin.
Midway.com's cost per pound of pure tin, unshipped is $17.50

If I add 1oz of the solder to 3lbs of wheel weights, that makes about a 2% tin alloy.
With my 6 spools I could theoretically make 288 pounds of alloy.

Hope this helps someone looking for tin.

I still need sources of WW in Houston if anybody has any good leads[pronounced "leeds" :-) ]

I dont know about tire weights but if your looking for bulk lead McMaster-Carr sells lead ingots, 5 lb for $19.09, 25 lb for $98.64 and 60 lb for $229.09. The also sell 5 lb spools of solder.
