DA explains why it was manslaughter and not first degree murder.

Just because you think the gun is unloaded....

16 yo arrested and 19 yo ROTC student who had already enlisted in the Army knew each other.

This is so tragic on so many levels.

The 16 year old may have also been an ROTC student as well.

Account of what happened. All were JROTC students. The shooter was skipping class and had the gun in his waistband.

I am very suspicious from what I have read about this so far--I don't think we are getting the whole story.
So, the kid brought a loaded handgun to school--gee I thought schools were gun-free zones. Sarcasm.
The shooter was in ROTC? They either taught him gun safety and he ignored it or they did not teach it to him. Mental health history?
After he shoots his fellow classmate he walks out of the school and disappears. Last I knew flight was evidence of guilt.
They find the shooter behind a dumpster and are looking for his gun....yeah.....
The shooter is a minor--kid gloves treatment.
I graduated from Sharpstown High in 1971. Back then Bellaire was an upscale school with---well I don't want to commit a joe biden so I will not go any further.
I feel really bad for the victim and his family. A young life snuffed out due to the negligence/recklessness of another and a lifetime of grief for the parents.

Anyone think the "knife culture" will be blamed for this? Don't think so. Will there be calls for new knife laws? Don't think so. Will liberals turn in their kitchen knives or advocate "buybacks?" Don't think so. Will the left really care or say anything, because a gun was not used? Don't think so. I waiting to see the followup where the NYT ties this to the leftest agenda though.

Mental health evaluation for the ND/murderer/crazy student with a gun at school, 16 year old JROTC.

Not cooperating with police. Gun still missing.

Appears the student he murdered was a great kid, well liked and had already enlisted in the Army. His funeral is this weekend.
