I bought my MilPro PT140 from the store on Westheimer and Voss about three months ago. I went there on my lunch break and had already looked at it elsewhere and had already decided on it and the price couldn't be beat. The local Academy didn't have any instock so that was the one that got the walk up "Gimme that one" hardest sale they'll ever make.

Took 45 minutes just to get the call in after filling everything out, the manager arguing with the sales guy and trying to find someone else to do this so she could go do something else. Overall it took over an hour after the time I said "Gimme" to when she walked me out the door and handed my weapon over on the other side of the door. I was allowed to carry my Hornady CD's out the door. If she had not spent all the time trying to get out of doing the work, it would have been a very quick deal.

I wasn't put off from buying there again, but it won't be my first choice.

My Academy story. Went in with my unloaded 1858 Colt Navy percussion black powder pistol to find a holster. They called someone up from the gun department, he took the pistol, walked me to the holsters, handed me the pistol, we talked while I tried different holsters, I handed the pistol back to him, then he walked me back to the cash register, waited while I paid, then walked me to the door.

All while I was wearing my concealed Sigma.

Admittedly haven't read all the posts in this thread, but my experience with Academy comes in several flavors.

1) First purchase - 9mm Glock; turns out it was a .40 cal. They had the documentation wrong. It was all so screwed up, I think they just wanted me happy and out of there. I was able to return the pistol to them and get the 9mm in exchange in spite of their policy. Experience level of salesperson questionable. About an hour.

2) Second purchase - smooth; got the old guy who knew his stuff. No paperwork problems - about 45 minutes.

3) Third purchase - smooth; got the old guy again after the youngster wanted his grape juice and cookies break. Good break for me. About 40 minutes.

I'm fairly satisfied with them. They pretty much have what I'm looking for and tend to not act like they are all-knowing like some gun shops and camera shops I frequent. And in my case, they are less than 5 miles away. The nearest gun store that I will go to beyond that is 20 miles away. Price? That's not an issue within reason. I need the selection and availability. They will also hold ammo for 24 hours if you call them for it. That helps.
