But hey they are safe they have a gate!!!

I remember years ago as a licensed private investigator trying to tail & do surveilance on someone in a gated community, and having to wait almost 5 minutes for someone with the gate code to come home .... so I could drive in right behind them.

Errrr I mean that was another investigator I knew <looks innocent>

When asked why he robbed banks, famous bank robber Willie Sutton replied, "Because that's where the money is."

Living in an upscale, gated community only means that you look like a juicy plum to holiday extra-legal shoppers.

The complex I live in got rid of the gate attendants a little while back and replaced them with a gate. The people who used to sit at the gate never looked at anyone coming in or out, never signed anyone in, wandered off all the time, watched TV all day...but we had very few car or apartment burglaries. As soon as the automated gate went in, it became a common occurrence.

The chance that someone might be able to ID them, however slim, was a great deterrent. The gate is useless. If someone just pulls all the way up to it and someone comes up behind them, there's no way for them to turn around and get back out, so it is a surefire method to get in.

So stupid.

About 5 years ago I walked in on a break-in at my home. When I came in the guy ran out the front door and I chased him and he was arrested. The next week I signed up for a CHL class and have been carrying at home since.
