This was an avoidable tragedy. This family will have some hard times ahead and I hope they get through it.

This was completely preventable.

Another example of why purse carry is a horrible idea.

My mother-in-law purse carries. I got her one of these and tethered it to the bottom of her purse. When he gun clears the purse, the tether pulls the trigger cover off and she is good to go...it stays where it is until then.

Of course, in her case, she carries a double action revolver. It would be really hard for a toddler to squeeze on off. This lady prolly had a small striker fired pistol. Has anyone seen what kind of gun it was?

Won't do any good if the child pulls the gun out of the purse and pulls the trigger. If a woman purse carries, or any one off body carries, we can NEVER, EVER let that bag separate from us, EVER! You can't sit it down in a corner, leave it in a cart, put it in a closet, none of this. If you're out and about and carrying off body, that bag must stay with you at all times. This is the only way to keep someone from accessing the gun inside.RogueUSMC wrote:My mother-in-law purse carries. I got her one of these and tethered it to the bottom of her purse. A horrible tragedy indeed.
Armed not dangerous but potentially lethal.

I doubt this was a purse designed for conceal carry. There are purses designed for this type of carry and have a compartment specifically to isolate the gun. Someone failed to educate this woman on the proper way to carry and secure her firearm. You are correct that when carrying off body you can never ever walk away and leave the method unattended even for an instance.jayinsat wrote:Won't do any good if the child pulls the gun out of the purse and pulls the trigger. Unfortunately, the anti-gun lobby will (and already are) make this an issue. A CHL holder leaving a gun unattended (even in a purse) like this is akin to a person with a driver's license leaving a child in the car with it running, while they step away "just for a minute". It's happened before in cars, with similarly tragic consequences. Only when the anti-gun folks get involved is it the "fault" of the inanimate object rather than the negligent person.

Re: 2 year old shoots and kills his mom in Walmart
I am finding it hard to believe the two year old un-zippered the concealed compartment of the purse, reached in and extracted the gun or fired it through the purse. Although possible this woman who is now being portrayed as experienced with guns yet she still left a loaded handgun off her body in a purse that was within reach of a 2 year old.suthdj wrote:Read a story today it was a CC purse she got for christmas sounds like only thing she did wrong was leave purse unsecure and underestimate her 2yo.

I am also amazed that you can't carry a loaded firearm with a CHL in her state according to the linked article. I am sure loaded refers to one in the chamber not really sure how that works for revolvers unless your six shot becomes a five shot. Sounds like a stupid law.

Article is wrong. You can carry a concealed handgun loaded with a license. You can openly carry a loaded handgun without a license in Idaho.Right2Carry wrote:I am finding it hard to believe the two year old un-zippered the concealed compartment of the purse, reached in and extracted the gun or fired it through the purse. She would still be alive if she lived in Maryland.
