Cell Phone Snatcher on the loose in Texas

#1

Post by DJ... »

My Girlfriend was recently Robbed by the Cell Phone Snatcher.

Here is how his scam works:

Dad and his 4 year old kid comes up to you and asks to use your cell phone.
Dad says his car is broke down.
You let him use the phone while you wait by his side.
While pretending to use your phone his kid walks back to the car.
Once you blink or turn your head for a second Dad runs off with your phone jumps in the car and takes off.

The Cell Phone Snatcher has struck several times in Fort Worth and on the Texas Christian University Campus.
You're probably saying you'd never let anyone use your cell phone but when the person has a kid with them it tends to throw off your judgement.
Also if you think you can track your Android or Iphone you are wrong. The Cell Phone Snatcher will pull your sim card and battery and you can't track it. (Don't believe me, pull your sim card or battery and see if you can track your phone)
Your phone can be reactivated once you cancel your service or activate a new phone on your account. New Iphone4s phones are 500-800 to replace.(Sprint Prices)

Beware, stay safe :tiphat:

Sprint phones are nice because there is no SIM card. Once you report it stolen, it's nothing more than a paper weight. And if they try and sell it, it'd be hard to move, IFFF you're a smart buyer and call Sprint to verify clean ESN #. Believe me, I've tried to buy 3 phones on Craigslist, got there, called, and found out it was reported stolen and no good. All times, the seller acted surprised, but I acted like Joe cool and told them to buzz off. (All while I kept my hand in my pocket on my LCP, just in case)

Sorry, but if you let a stranger "borrow" your cell phone then you deserve to get it stolen. Offer to call 911 for them if they have an emergency. If it's not bad enough for 911 then it's not an emergency.

...I don't see any troll-tracks here, just someone who's trying to save us a problem...
...my phone is a newer Sprint phone and has a 2G.microSD Card...is that a Simcard??? I don't do webstuff, just talk and an occasional picture...don't even text...but it's in my manual...
...when I worked in the pawnshop, we wouldn't accept/buy Sprint phones because, till the old bill was satisfied, Sprint wouldn't activate the phone...we'd tell 'em to give it to a charity for 911-only for those who couldn't afford a phone at home...

The cell phone snatcher got me yesterday. :mad5

His method was to pose as an IT guy with the company I work for. Before I knew what happened, he had taken my blackberry and left me with some foreign thing-a-ma-bob.

It doesn't even have a keyboard! I thought it had a nice little mirror on the back, until I realized someone had taken a bite out of it!!!

I simply don't let anybody use my phone. Period.

The phone stolen was a Sprint Iphone 4s. They have small sim cards you can pull out with a needle.

^ This. Handing your phone to a stranger is totally asking for it to be stolen. Why not hand them your car keys too?
