There may be a bit of hope...

In 2008 my truck was stolen from a campus parking lot in Seattle. I filed a police report, filed the insurance claim, and about 15 days later, I found my truck. It was parked about 6 miles away. Now, since I had drill the next morning, I had filled up the night before it was stolen. In order to calculate fuel economy, I always fill up the tank then reset the trip odometer. So, when I found the truck, there was about 200 miles extra on it, and it was running on fumes. And my brand new clutch felt like CRAP...(apparently not too many people anymore know how to drive a stick) So I asked the police chief about it since he had expressed interest in my findings... He said that sometimes drug dealers steal a car, use it for temporary transport for a night or 2, then dump the car.

Everything had been rifled through, but NOTHING was missing. Fingerprints were attempted, but in Seattle, 2 weeks of rain screws that bit up. We're assuming the BG wore gloves though because the inside had only my prints...

On the downside, they do say that if you don't find it wrecked in 48 hours or if it isn't recovered by PD quickly, it's probably chopped or just plain gone forever. But, strange things do happen... Maybe you'll get lucky.

FWIW, my truck is an 03 F-150, and it is the base model. No frills. Has a camper on it, and at the time it was stolen, I had just moved, so most of my stuff was still in the truck. No evidence of a break in other than some dirt and grime on the window. I'm no expert on it, but the officers that came to file the 'un-stolen' report (whatever that's really called) said it looked like the perp used a slimjim. This isn't hard on my model of truck.... I have done it 3 or 4 times when I've locked myself out...

Anywho, best of luck to ya with everything.

EDIT: You don't happen to have the NRA gun insurance do you? If not, it's free for up to a couple thousand bucks...
about 65 days to plastic...
Carry guns:
Springfield V-10 3.5" 1911(thanks again, Texasvet)
Glock 26
Springfield XD40 4"
Llama 1911 (hey, don't knock it. Never had a SINGLE reliability problem with it. Over 1000 rounds through it.)
(lots of long guns, and a few other pistols for other use)

This is what I have installed on my '05 diesel Excursion: http://www.ravelco.com/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm not saying it's perfect, but "Not one vehicle stolen" in the history of this device is pretty compelling evidence.

When I first had it, I occasionally forgot to remove the Ravelco "key" as well as my truck key. Now the two are joined by this handy device: " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That kinda sucks too - Carfax will always show it was stolen/recovered now. Ca t imagine that will be good if you plan to resell.

I had a car get stolen many years ago...it was a 1987 Honda Accord, and it was stolen around 1995 or so. The thieves were teenagers who were caught pretty quickly--they didn't have drivers licenses nor insurance, and unfortunately they did a lot of damage to the inside of the car, such as burning the seats with Swisher Sweets. The car was never the same again.

Sorry to hear that it happened to you. I know the feeling and it's not a good one.

Harder, but not impossible. Most keys these days are smart keys (internal chip), but the security systems can be defeated or bypassed. While it may deter the amateur, the pros have ways of getting around them with illegal locksmith tools and override boxes.

Ikd,

Would you know if a new Ravelco anti-theft device can be bought and properly installed for less than $469.00?

I fully appreciate the cost will be worth it if it prevents theft, but...
