Re: Allen Gun Show
I am guessing they don't have a 30.6 sign, so is it ok to assume that if you go to another event other than a gun show and security spots your concealed gun they will do what?????

Re: Allen Gun Show
They had a 30.06 sign posted. And while a city owned building can't be posted, it is unclear if a private venue leasing the facility can post and enforce a 30.06 at the city owned facility.Bob in Big D wrote:I am guessing they don't have a 30.6 sign, so is it ok to assume that if you go to another event other than a gun show and security spots your concealed gun they will do what?????
My view in this case is if the facility staff were the ones that were performing the security, then they are city employees by virtue of the facility being a city owned building, so they can't enforce a 30.06. Now, i don't want to be the test case in court, but that would be my argument for defense.

I agree. The logic seems sound. However, the female DPS atty over CHL does not agree. I went a few rounds with her last Fall over thisKeith B wrote:They had a 30.06 sign posted. very topic (State Fair, city owned facility etc). If you'd like a truly unique experience...... contact her and ask her to explain...... if you are able to get a word in edge-wise, and understand HER reasoning...... you're a better man than I.

Re: Allen Gun Show
My first thought reading your post was, how did he see it if it was concealed?
I think you did well with the situation overall though.

I know exactly who you are talking about and she's dead wrong. Unfortunately, it's not the first time. With all of the great improvements DPS has made, . . .gemini wrote:I agree. Re: Allen Gun Show
It would seem to me ( a not yet CHL holder, but all the paperwork is in.) that the Constitution gives us the right to bear arms yet the State is suppose to regulate that right while each city is trying to do the States job. We would end up with a big mess.

Re: Allen Gun Show
Even if the 30.06 sign is valid, it doesn't matter if the handgun is loaded or unloaded, in a holster or gun case, or if you purchased it 10 years ago or at the show.
That's the best answer. Spend your money with businesses that don't hassle legal gun owners. Especially during these economic hard times.labrat1001001 wrote:I will never again go back to the Allen gun show.

Seems like this will be a short lived location for future shows.

Re: Allen Gun Show
I heard on the news this morning the company hired to promote events is being relieved of that duty. The City is not pleased with the number of events scheduled. If I understood correctly the City will take on the responsibility of promoting the event center. I attended the show, but had made the decision not to attend another at that location. Nice facility, but entry fee was to high and show was to small. If you've seen one you've seen them all.

Re: Allen Gun Show
I too went to the Allen gun show. I'm sorry you got that treatment. How did he know you were carrying? (Unless I missed that) I would have asked for identification before acknowledging I had a gun but to be fair sounds like you were caught off guard and just complied. I probably would have done the same if I was in your shoes. Sounds like someone on a power trip. On my way out I had a security guy check a sack that contained a gun I had bought. He even checked to make sure I had a receipt before allowing me to leave. Several problems here. What if I had done like you and had my personal gun in this sack? So I don't have a receipt for it...what happens? I asked him if this was standard and he said ATF was out there and they had to do this. The security guy seemed as if he genuinely didn't like checking sacks and even went so far to apologize. However I was carrying a backpack and upon entering there was a sign that said all bags will be checked. Mine wasn't and there was a police officer at the entrance. Wasn't checked on the way out either.
On a side note I found the entire set up of the gun show ridiculous. You have to make this huge circle around the hall area and get to an entrance into the center section which appeared to have only one way in and one way out. I guess I can kind of see some of the reasons for that but just seemed poorly laid out. While it was a nice facility I doubt I will go back if the same people are putting it on.

Re: Allen Gun Show
I went to the Allen Gun Show a couple of weeks ago and they did have a 30.6 sign taped to the glass entry doors and another one that said NO CHL Carry. Yet several of the venders were open carrying inside the show. There were several LEO's outside and inside.
I can understand why ALL guns should be unloaded at a Gunshow. Lets say I am carrying my 1911 concealed and see something that I can't live without and the only wany for me to get it would be to trade my 1911. Do I pull out my loaded gun with a round in the chamber and unload it it. Probably not the safest thing to do with that many folks around. Besides if trouble happened I think with all the LEO's there I don't think it wouldn't last long.
BTW....my 1911 is not for sale or trade

Re: Allen Gun Show
I didn't go to the Allen show, BUT I did go to the first ever show in Plano and the cop at the door was totally cool and didn't understand why I even showed him my concealed weapon. In fact he ask if I was going to sell it (a sig 9mm) and I said no, then he ask why I unloaded it then. I told him at every other gun show in the area 30.06 was inforced (sign or no sign) and no one was allowed to carry conceled loaded weapons inside. He thought that was the dumbest thing he had ever heard. He said "why in the world would they disarm someone in a gun show with a ton of guns and ammo everywhere, what are people thinking?"
I told him I thought the same thing for years, I then ask my wife for the mag from her purse, slapped it in racked, de-cocked and holstered my sig and the officer smiled and said "Have fun"
