The part that makes me crazy is how care free this punk is about it. He is just moving car to car like he owns them all or something. There was a time when I would have posted up about how I would not shoot someone over stealing my property. I have been stolen from so much in the past year or so I am changing my mind. That thug is flippant about it all.

Can I hide in your garbage can? I want to beat that kid with a ball bat. :biggrinjester:

By the way Keith, your cameras are getting really good shots of these guys. Our cameras are not so detailed. Where did you get those and what /how would I ask for the same thing. The camera at the back of our office is not nearly that clear. What res is the camera?

Cam is just an Airlink AICN500W in a home-built weatherproof enclosure outside, and the software is from a company called Blue Iris Not really a hi-res cam.

And, you can live in my trash can if you can stand the smell, but we may start calling you Oscar. :rolll

I would require certain house keeping minimums on your part...

We have software so I can watch the video from my home. I think it is blue Iris. The camera quality is much better on yours than ours. It may be the distance. Ours is mounted 20 ft high so it doesn't get stolen. No kidding.... four cameras have been stolen off buildings in our complex. Still can't catch the perps!!! It is crazy to think a person can be seen with a close up as he steals your camera and the Police still can't do anything about it. Finger prints won't even get a thief caught. I get the impression that the Police are only there to provide an incident number so the insurance can pay up. Even the cops will tell you the odds of ever catching them are slim to none... even with video.

Anyway... thanks for the camera info... I :cheers2: will have my production manager look at that one.

Motion detector, range limited to driveway area, attached to loudspeaker that will say "I SEE you, and this is not Candid Camera!" (Verbage to remain within forum guidelines, of course....) I'll bet the mother's little darling leaves a puddle as he leaves the driveway!

I even thought about rigging our AC unit to electrocute a thief in certain conditionins. My problem is that I hate jail and am worried if my booby trap kills some piece of garbage I will end up being Big Roys wife.

I looked at our equipment today and I think I discovered a feature that will set off an alarm if a camera is activated. If this is true, I may hook it up to alert me at home. then I can go to the shop and have some real fun. I am only about five to ten minutes away depending on traffic. I bet three minutes if I just floor the gas all the way there.

Sorry about punctuation errors and capitalization mistakes. I have a temporary problem with motor control in my right hand and screw up sometimes. I am getting worn out constantly correcting it. I'm not retarded and realize the mistake. Sorry folks... we just have to live with it for awhile.

I hope your recovery is a full and quick one 03lightningrocks.

I like the idea of a camera sending me an alert, but I wonder if I could set the range properly so a kid riding by on their bike doesn't set it off. I would grow tired of constant false alarms and would probably end up feeling like the boy who called wolf one too many times. I have this problem with my motion lights on the front of my house. I can't seem to find that sweet spot yet. It either doesn't come on when I want it too, or it lights up as someone walks past by the street. I'm still working on it though. Just my .02

Generally, with camera-based motion detection, you can just set an area within its field of view in the software where it will alert. If you're recording on motion, you can generally also set a pre-delay so that it will save 10-15 seconds before any triggering event too. For regular motion sensors, the most effective solution is to actually mask the sensor itself so that it can only see the area you want detection to happen in.

Thanks for the well wishes. September 7th they are going to fix me up. Then I have to wear a darned neck brace for six weeks. The neck brace part scares me more than the surgery.

The thing about the camera alarm is that you can look before leaping. If the thing goes off and it is just some kid riding by... great.... but if it is some thug trying to steal something.... I can get even for everyone who has ever stolen from me...LOL.

Just like to add M2c for thought.

Depending on your camera type and mostly on the software
on your DVR or NVS you can paint (mark the area of concern)
a line or an object (door handle) so anything can happen as long as that
object or line is not affected or crossed. This will eliminate most, probably not all, of your cries of wolf.

Systems are quite sophisticated now even for off the shelf hardware. The research before you buy can allow a good many bells and whistles. Unfortunately, the really neat analytics stuff will get pricy fast.

The camera motion that is mentioned actually works off the pixel display and is not
true motion detection. Use of a motion detector outside for an alarm contact
will become a constant constant (yes I meant to write that twice) source of irritation and
false alarms. It will make no difference how much you tape.

Just my opinion but it does come from experience, both personal and industry. :patriot:

Just throwing this out there, in addition to motion activated lights, a vigilant dog with a bark can go a longgggggg ways! You may not like dogs, the poo, feeding them, etc. But I like the 4 legged critters. We have a 178 lb Great Dane that can wake up the whole neighborhood with his bark (that can also be a problem if they bark too much).

Dogs can be a good alert system and deterrent. Our Schnauzer puppy is starting to show guarding behavior and will woof softly if he hears something odd outside. Enough to wake me, but not enough to alert any intruder. If he were to bark, he has a nice deep one that sounds bigger than he is!

Still, dogs are not always a practical solution for someone looking to deter theft and burglary. Even though we have a dog, we're planning on getting a CCTV system so we have evidence if something does happen, and I can view what's happening from the safety of my fortified bedroom. I agree though, the fancier ones are too pricey for the really customizable stuff. We're sticking with as plain Jane as we can get.
