It's not a question of being afraid.

There are many things that civilized people do not discuss outside their immediate family and trusted counselors, for example, their medical issues, finances, sex life, or marital problems.

It is prudent to avoid discussing certain topics in certain situations. In particular, since most people need to work for a living, it is prudent to avoid doing something that puts one's job or livelihood at risk without good reason. Jawboning about something controversial that is not related to work is no way to advance your career.

It's simply polite and good sense to avoid stirring up controversy among relatives or in-laws.

By the responses I have seen I would guess most on this forum are opposed to open carry. Should we also have to take a class to recieve a free peach license as well?

We have a congressman as a member of this board?

"rlol" "rlol" "rlol" He beat me to the comment. Though I know some Jarheads that could tip over an island if a Gunny sent them on the mission.

I don't think it is. If you haven't yet, please read through the reasons we've posted throughout this thread. There are many of us who have valid reasons to be prudent. If you also read many of our posts on other threads, you'll probably notice that we also have strong feelings favoring respect, freedom and the rule of law. We choose to be thoughtful in our approach, and in how we treat others.

I hope you'll respect that.

I just do not see how discussing a topic is a show of disrespect. No two people are going to agree on everything. Any topic can be discussed respectfully or disrespectfully. Being tackful, utilizing acceptable language, and tone governs the level of respect shown to others in a converation, even more than the subject matter.

If the NRA only chose to be a proponant of the 2nd amendment with thier immediate Family and Friends we might not have the level of FREEDOM we do today. I am not trying to judge anyone for being willing to have open conversations about this subject or to not, just please do not condemn or so heavily forewarn those that choose to.

A wise ole sage once said...

"Loose Lips Sink Ships..."

I know its cool, to achieve something as important as a permit or license to carry the means to effectively defend yourself if attacked...

But once you achieve something like this, the schooling, training, responsibility and most important the accountability for how you conduct yourself are somewhat elevated...

I personally, would never assume I knew enough, and thesetypes of discussions, no matter how mundane or repeatative are some of the most basic, and important to our community...

That is why this forum is absolutely so important to everyone regardless of your station in life...
