Friday I stopped by the local Cabela's to buy a Ruger LCP they had on sale ($199). Gave the person behind the counter my LTC and he started filling out some paperwork. I meanwhile had to fill out the 4473 on a tablet PC. Went over to the firearms check out and gave them my LTC and DL. I had to sign that nothing had changed since I filled out the electronic 4473 (5 minutes earlier). Then they had to verify that everything on the LTC was the same as on the 4473. Then he had to have someone come over to verify something. Then he had to sign something. Then he had to print out the 4473 and verify something on it. Then he had to have someone come over and verify something. Then he had to verify the serial number on the LCP AND have someone else verify the serial number. It took longer than if I had just used my DL. When I purchased a gun there before, I filled out the 4473 on the computer at check out and they verified my DL and ran the 4473 and done. Maybe 15 minutes. This took over 30 minutes.

Sounds like my trip to Cabela's a few months ago. Had to recheck everything 20 times, pull a manager over because my address didn't exist in their computer, put it in a certain way to work around it, modify and initial it on the 4473, and trying to push their stupid credit card at me the whole time.
And now I get snail mail spam from them...

When I bought a firearm at Academy a month or so back I used my LTC and had the same experience. My info was verified a million different times and it took about 40 minutes from "I want to buy it" to finally paying for it.

In the mean time, they were making the phone call background check anyways. I know that to be a fact, the only problem is that what if the approval was delayed?

Sounds like my experience as well. I had some discounts that I wanted to use and they had a rifle I wanted. But even before that, it took me three trips there before I could even talk to someone behind the gun counter. Typically when you go to the gun counter, the people behind the counter consist of:
1 playing with their cell phone
2 or 3 standing there telling jokes to one another
1 who keeps coming in and out of the key carded door
1 actually talking to a customer
10 to 12 customers wanting to talk to one of them. 4 or 5 of which just want someone to hand them a box of primers they keep back behind the counter.
Luckily I live close. But to get to talk to someone behind the counter I went in first thing on a Saturday morning. They opened at 9. After all the checking and double checking it was almost 11 before I was out the store, box in hand.

And, they carry the gun for you all the way out the door. The silliest move i ever seen. We used to conceal carry with no issues and now I open carry in the store and they still do the same silly transport of the gun for you.

My understanding is that Academy does the same thing. But that's not the worst. While they were still in business here I once bought a box of ammo from "The Sports Authority". They hand carried a box of .38 Spcl ammo to the checkout, after making a call to tell them we were on the way. I never again darkened their doorway, even when they had a lot of sales when they were closing the store.

There was a bit of confusion at the Cabela’s Sporting
Goods store this morning.
When I was ready to pay for my purchases of gun powder
And bullets the cashier said, "Strip down, facing me."
Making a mental note to complain to the NRA about the
Gun registry people running amok, I did just as she had instructed.
When the hysterical shrieking and alarms finally subsided,
I found out that she was referring to my credit card.
I have been asked to shop elsewhere in the future.
They need to make their instructions to us seniors a little clearer!

That's why I go to my local guy for firearms. If he doesn't have it he can get it. The only advantage to big box stores is they have more stock if your into instant gratification. I can walk out with a gun in 10 minutes.

They just put the box in a sack and handed it to me. I think that Cabela's needs to do some serious training in their gun department.

Never purchased a firearm from Cabelas. How ever I bought one from Dicks Sporting Goods a few weeks ago. They did the double check of paperwork , but the entire process took 15 minutes. They also walked me out the door.

I've never filled out a 4473 quickly because if you make a mistake...
I'm not in the least upset with a 30 minute effort to buy a gun.
Seems fairly reasonable to me...
As to an employee walking me out the door with my new gun purchase, no big deal to me and I'm not the most patient guy...
