Hey guys I'm trying to figure out a clever way on how I can carry my AR-15 in my truck. Preferably I'd like it mounted under my back seat because it's out sight from any would be window lookers. I have thought about Velcro or something and I don't like it sitting on the floor under the seat even in its case. Suggestions?

Couple options, though both have a price tag. These are a couple of the options for most late model trucks you can get from the web vendors.

I took a cheap soft case, punched grommets in the "fold" part, ran zip ties through them, then ran zip ties to a "dog leash clip" on the frame of the seat. I leave the end of the soft case unzipped and clip it in under my back seat. So, when i have to hit the brakes, it does not fly forward, it also helps with the side to side if you tie it in right. To get it out I open my back door, reach in the case, grab the buttstock, pull real hard, hit the safety and start shooting.

Stays out of sight, yet easily accessible.

OK, here it goes.

This rifle is a little long for this case, it was designed for an M4 with a 14.5" barrel. you can see the grommets in the bottom



Here is a view of the grommets, and the zip tie and connection system going back to my seat frame.



Here is what it looks like once I zip it up and drop the seat.

In the green bag are 10 mags, a basic cleaning kit with a bore snake, oil bottle and q-tips.

This setup works for me because I park in my garage at night, and I am an independent health insurance agent, and 99% of my appointments are in the client's home or I meet them at a Starbucks or something. I am rarely more than 30-40 yards away from my truck. I have very little fear of having it broken into and stolen like I would if it was parked in an employer's lot 8 hours per day. YMMV, but it works for me and is cheap.

I pull the rifle out quarterly and re-lube it. Never had a problem.

Doesn't it get tiring to unload the magazines and store them in a separate locked case every time you pass within 1000' of a school zone?

Oh yeah...I had to go there...

GREAT idea. Won't work in my vehicle - a 2015 4Runner. It might have room under one or the other sides of the split seat for a gun rug with a small pistol in it, but not for any kind of long gun - even a take down version. I've got to figure out some other alternative. Unfortunately, I'm not sure it is possible to find one without spending some considerable amount of money. I like the idea of those slide out flat drawers for the cargo compartment, but man....... $$$

That's why I'm goin as cheap and simple as I can. There are special boxes made like you say but you will pay for em

I dont know what your security needs are but have you thought about building it yourself out of wood? Could still be lockable relatively secure.

I have a new F150 and I like that tuffy box for under the seat in the older models than the 2015/2016 models. I wouldn't want it to go under the single seat.

Before seeing this I was thinking about building a box under the seat just for more general storage without it rolling out from under the seat. I was going to just remove the plastic bar they had and extend the storage are off of the brackets for that plastic piece and have no bottom in it. When I get an AR one day (which that day feels like soon) I may need the lock box.
