Urge for a new 9mm...

#1

Post by Iunnrais »

So it is closing on bonus/tax time and I am getting the urge for a new addition in 9mm. Currently only have 2 9s in the house, my Walther PPS and my wife's SR9c. We previously had a Sig p229 but the CFO did not like it so it went away to fund the Ruger which she loves. Currently waffling between a full/mid size Glock or a Walther PPQ. Any other suggestions out there? 1911 is already handled by a Colt and I'd rather have a bit more capacity. Would not be a primary carry but more a range/practice & perhaps occasional owb carry.

This.

GT Distributors has great prices on Glocks if you qualify for the Blue Label discount for LE, active/retired military (incl NG), EMT, paid or vollie firefighter, court officer, probation, corrections,...maybe some others. I think GSSF members with two years of membership also qualify.

Seeing how you already have a PPS, I would say get his big brother. PPQ is on my list but I like Walther pistols, a lot.

Got an XDm 9mm 3.8 compact for Christmas. Very sweet shooter, quickly becoming my favorite gun and find myself carrying it more than my XDm .45 3.8 compact.

With the 19 rd mag, great for the range, but easily concealable with 13 rounder.

I just got a Smith&Wesson M&P9 Pro with a 5" barrel (same size as glock 34), and I would highly recommend it. I wanted a long slide for target shooting/night stand duty. The pro has a much better trigger than the normal full size M&P also. I had a glock 21 for many years, but I never could get used to the ergonomics. The M&P pro fits my hand much better than gen 3 or gen 4 glocks.

Of course I would recommend Gen 4 GLOCK 19 or 17 with 15 round & 17 round capacities you can't go wrong with either of them. Especially the 19, just an all around great size, great range gun & very easy to CC or OC & not to mention GLOCK'S reliability has been proven time & time again.
What ever you choose in a 9mm, just

Love my Sig SP2022. Lighter than the p229, but I still carry everyday with 15+1 and a spare 17-round mag. The price is right as well, so the CFO may well approve.

Plus one on the Springfield XDm 9. The subcompact models would be easier to carry but still have good capacity you're looking for. A very well made handgun for sure. Makes for a very dependable carry. Lots of holsters available for the XD models also.

I always forget about the PX4, probably due to it's big brother the 92 (which I had thought about as well).

I do have to admit that Mag-Pul makes the big glock very tempting due to spare mag pricing. I'd also forgotten about the G34 which would make a nice range toy.
