May be looking to buy one or the other. I really like pistols with hammers is why I am looking at these two along with their decent price. Let me have your opinions and no I do not want a Glock. Gave my daughter and son pistols out of my safe at Christmas and need to replace at least one. Thanks for your time and opinions.

Can't speak to the storm but I've got a 2022 and it's a very nice accurate pistol, I do find the slide release is in an awkward place for my grip and leads to not locking back on the last round but other than that it's solid

The PX-4 is a fantastic pistol as is the Sig, but they both feel completely differently in the hand. Think long and hard as to which feels better in your hand and which points more naturally. You can't go wrong either way.

I agree you should try both. I have the PX4 in .45, it comes with three different grip backs, so you can somewhat adjust for your grip. The grip is larger than my 1911 becasue of the double stack mag.

It shoots very accurately, and I like the de-cock, DA/SA feature.

I am a dyed in the wool 1911 fan but this gun will not be just for me. Since this gun will be used and abused by kids and grandkids do not want to spend $1800 on a .40cal pistol. Just looking for something reliable for others to shoot.

I've tried both (in 9mm, not .40 cal, but the comparison is valid), and I chose the 2022 as my EDC. I carry it every day, and I love it.

But...

Both are great guns. Both shoot well, and both are good manufacturers who stand behind their products. With my family's Italian roots (and the fact that I carried a 92 as a LEO over 25 years ago, and in the army I had an M9), I leaned heavily toward the PX4, but the 2022 won in the long run.

Why? The safety - and for two reasons:
  • I have nerve damage in my right thumb that makes it nearly impossible for me to (a) feel if the safety is on or off, and (b) confidently operate the safety in a defensive situation, and know for a fact that I did, indeed move it to the fire position. I figured if I couldn't definitively know where it was at any time without looking or feeling with a different finger, then I couldn't trust myself with it. The 2022 doesn't have a safety, but it does have a safe decocker. I still cannot use my thumb on it, but I never thought I'd find myself in a an 'emergency decock' situation that required me to do so with the intended digit, as designed by the manufacturer.
  • While my first reason was enough to steer me toward the 2022, the size of the safety on the PX4 was also a deterrent. It seemed a bit oversized for me, compared to the size of the gun. I felt that (with my generously sized midsection) the protruding safety on the PX4 might possibly be a bit too big for me. I imagined that sliver of metal jutting out from the back end of the gun, and digging right into my side, and figured that wasn't for me.
If you're in the west Houston area, and you want to range test a 2022, please feel free to send me a PM. I'm always looking for another excuse to head to the range!

Vol Texan thanks for the offer and the info, but being halfway between Dallas and Amarillo I must decline the shooting offer. Son took my XD-40 full size and wife took XD-40 sub-compact, just need to fill a gap in my collection of shooters.

I own a PX4 Storm .40. I got it in the Inox. I've had this pistol for about 2yrs now and haven't had any problems with it. Love this pistol. It's very accurate. I've put a few hundred rounds thru it with no jams. I would highly recommend this pistol. :fire

How is the weight for the PX-4 Storm, held one felt heavy over the sig. Also not sure about the twisting barrel. I'm also looking to also buy a Glock 23 & a Springfield XDs 9.

Lookup the story behind the Sig 2022. Then make your decision.

I had a Storm G model in 9mm for a couple of months. Great pistol, great trigger... but I wanted to get a pistol suppressor so I sold it.

Bought the Storm compact in .40 cal, finally got a chance to shoot it today. The wife and I handled all 3 models of this gun and decided we liked the feel of the compact the best. Ran several rounds of Winchester white box 165gr fmj and 165gr FTX Critical Defense through the the pistol with no problems.
First shot on double action is not bad and single action thereafter is good. Some muzzle jump with the 3.2" bbl but really not bad at all. Wife said it had a little more felt recoil than her full size XD-40 but really liked the way it shot.
All in all this is a fine shooter. I would not hesitate to buy another after shooting this gun.
