Re: Red Dot sights
The TruGlo red/green holo sight works well on my Mossberg .22 AR. I'd put it on my .223/556 AR, but I've got a Nikon scope on it. The TruGlo and its clones (there are many different folks selling the same basic holo site - I've seen 'em for as little as $30 at a gun show up to the $100 that TruGlo's MSRP says) are pretty good for basic holo sights. They have some infant mortality - if yours doesn't work, return it for a new one. One of mine quit - got a replacement back from TruGlo in about a week. Another took a shell that ricochet'ed off the booth and into the sight... broke the lens up at the top/outside part. Tru/Glo said it wouldn't replace that one. The ones I've got on my Neos and my Mossberg .22 have been around for over a year, and are still going strong.
As you can tell, I llike them.

Re: Red Dot sights
I would get a Primary Arms microdot. I decided to get one after reading review upon review of different RDS and ended up with a PA microdot. I liked it a lot that now I have two.

Re: Red Dot sights
There's also the Redfield Counterstrike: http://redfield.com/counterstrike/
$179.99 from Brownells: http://www.brownells.com/optics-mountin ... 55725.aspx
$179.99 from Brownells: http://www.brownells.com/optics-mountin ... 55725.aspx
Redfield’s non-magnifying (1x) Counterstrike optic is designed specifically for operation on flattop AR-15 rifles with no front sight tower. It features a user-selectable red or green 4 MOA dot, plus a belly-mounted aiming laser to give you plenty of sighting versatility in any targeting situation. Zero the center dot at a longer distance, set the laser for short ranges, and you’re ready for whatever comes your way! Both aiming points may also co-witness to give you extra assurance. The center dot features 11 brightness-intensity settings and 2 night-vision compatible settings to keep it visible in the brightest or dimmest light. Integral mount secures the optic firmly to a Picatinny rail. 5.9" OAL, 14.8 oz. 90 MOA adjustment range; ½ MOA click value.

Re: Red Dot sights
Now that I have my AR and my husband will have his in the next week, we are also looking for good red dot sights for as least money as possible. We prefer the sight to be in the same size category as the EOTech or Aimpoints and our primary preference other than low cost is battery life. What I appreciate about the Trijicon Reflex (another one we like, but is too expensive) is that it doens't require a battery.
All suggestions welcome

Re: Red Dot sights
I just ordered a Bushnell TRS-25
I believe it is the best bang for the buck for a simple red dot sight after reading online reviews and recommendations.

Re: Red Dot sights
Anyone have any experience with the TruGlo? I am going to research that Bushnell.

In roughly the same price range as an EOTech is the Mepro M21: http://www.binoculars.com/rifle-scopes/ ... binocularsChoqPOC wrote:Now that I have my AR and my husband will have his in the next week, we are also looking for good red dot sights for as least money as possible. It uses no batteries (uses fiberoptics and tritium instead), and it is the issue optic for the Israeli military's Tavor carbine.
But you're not going to get tritium/fiberoptic sights for the cost of an inexpensive Bushnell or something. However, if you're willing to spend in the 300-500 range, you can get a pretty good sight. Heck, I'm selling a package deal right here: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=69881" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Red Dot sights
I think we've settled on the Vortex SPARC. We went to Cabelas today and were able to put it in our hands and take a look at it. We have also seen several reviews on YouTube and other sites... Seems like the best red dot optic for the price. The very nice gentleman at Cabela's, former military, said he would recommend the optic (in this price range) over any others and he'd used EOTech, etc while in Afghanistan. He also said that the Vortex price point is a challenge to the more costly brands - almost forcing their hand with optics pricing. When there are two of everything that you have to buy (husband and myself), you go with the best for less...The Annoyed Man wrote:In roughly the same price range as an EOTech is the Mepro M21: http://www.binoculars.com/rifle-scopes/ ... binocularsChoqPOC wrote:Now that I have my AR and my husband will have his in the next week, we are also looking for good red dot sights for as least money as possible. Re: Red Dot sights
I would suggest the Lucid HD7 Gen III - I love mine, and from my experience, I believe it to be much more durable than the TruGlos, Bushnell or other budget optics. The Vortex and Redfield are also pretty good.
You can get the HD7 for about $189 from Amazon and other sources:

edit: If you prefer a lower profile than the HD7, you can go for their M7. Street price is about the same.

Gaaahhh!! You mean I have to dive into more YouTube Review videos tonight. You guys don't make this easy, at all. My husband has issues with the lens diameter, and the HD7 seems to have more than the SPARC. I am in YouTube red dot vs retical overload.
