I guess I'm still pretty old school. My concealed carry weapons are 4" revolvers in 357 and 45 colt. I keep a 12 gauge pump or lever action rifle in car trunk or truck back floorboard. Are there any sources for us old school gun toters? Web sites, printed magazines, and forums that are geared more for old timers?

Nothing wrong with the firearms you carry and use. I certainly wouldn't want to be shot with a .357 Magnum lever rifle or .45 Long Colt revolver any more than I'd want to be shot with a 9mm Glock or a 5.56mm AR. Use what you choose to use, that is the great thing about being an American.

I have, among others, a Winchester 94 Trapper in .357/.38, and a Ruger GP100 in the same. It is a very useable pair of weapons, pretty decent firepower for what it is, light, short, simple, unquestionably CA legal, my get out of Dodge pair, when I was healthy enough to get out of Dodge.

While I have a nice collection of revolvers from around the world, I know zippo about lever guns. I'd like to own a nice short barreled Marlin (side eject) carbine, but all the ones I handled, I was put off by the stiff action. What does it take in the way of break in or gunsmithing to get a silky smooth lever action that an old fella like me (with some arthritis) would enjoy operating?

I will carry a revolver over a semi auto any day. There is nothing better than a blue steel revolver. My two favorite guns I own are a SAA clone in 357 and a Winchester 94 30-30 trapper. I just made a leather butt stock cover for the trapper today.

You aren't alone in your tastes. We should have a wheel/lever gun get together at a local range.

My most favorite competition gun is my S&W R8. (8 shot .357 N Frame) Not exactly "Old School" but it's still a wheel gun.

A bit large for concealed carry, however I shoot it SO much that it would be very comfortable in a stressful situation. Lately I have been considering shecking out the Snub nose version of this revolver. I'm thinking with the same Miculek grip I use in competition, it would feel VERY good and would be a lot easier to conceal than the 5" barrel.

For training, there are definitely resources.

Gunsite (http://www.gunsite.com/main/course-offerings/) has courses for Defensive Revolver, Defensive Revolver Single Action, and Cowboy Action.

Also, some defensive handgun courses are designed to be revolver-neutral by keeping all firing to six-shot strings. Massad Ayoob's MAG-40 course (http://massadayoobgroup.com/?page_id=7) springs to mind.

With the way the gun market is going right now, it's easier for me to buy and shoot 38/357 and 30-30 than it is to shoot 9mm and 5.56.
