Springfield XDS 9mm - SHOT show

#1

Post by A-R »

Been seeing random tidbits (FB, blogs) from people who claim to be at SHOT show that Springfield has unveiled an XDS in 9mm.

Sweeeeet! The first incarnation of this pistol was very interesting, I would love to see what the official specs of the 9 will be. Hopefully it will be out soon.

As I understand it, dimensions are exactly the same - just chambered in 9mm

Will it hold a max of 7 rounds? :coolgleamA: That's to comply with the bill that NYS plans on voting in during the wee hours tonight.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't pass up the opportunity to shoot the 9mm XDs, but the whole reason I was interested in the XDs line to begin with (and got one) is that it is a very small package for a .45. I have no complaints for the ultra small 9mms I already own, other than those based on the cartridge. Having said all of this, I've probably jinxed myself and will fall in love with the 9mm version, too.

Why XDS 9 when there is XDS .45? Isn't .45 > 9mm?

I kinda thought the same thing but I am VERY biased and raised in a home where a good personal defense pistol was at least a .45. :fire

However, comfort and ability to shoot (both improve shot placement) are more important than the variance between 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP. So, if you like how the XDs in 9mm shoots and the .45 is a bit much for you then get the 9mm. In the end, I want the other guy/gal to be able to hit the intended target too. :thumbs2:
Hello. My name is Red and I used to carry a .45. Now I carry a 9mm and it's getting easier to admit every day.

If it is the same size then I could see your point but it will still have more rounds. That said, I'd probably take the larger cal with no size reduction. Make it smaller and lighter though and I'll choose the 9, which is what I was hoping for. To each his own I guess, disappointing if it really isn't smaller. I have plenty of larger options, was hoping for a smaller one.

My wife and I both have XDs' for carry. We have already informed the family FFL to get two of the 9mm versions.... same holster, same manual of arms, cheaper ammo.
I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments by those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations.

How much is it going to cost? My guess is over 500 or closer to 600 like the. 45 version. At that price it really isn't in the same price range as the shied. More like a Pps. There is a reason why shields are still so hard to find. The price. Xds 45 can be found at almost any of my lgs. Not that the xds is bad, I like it but it is in the next price range of pistols.
