Spare magazine wearing out my pockets
I've been carrying practically every day for about a year - first thing in the morning my M&P goes on my right hip and a spare 12 round magazine in my left front pants pocket and I don't disarm until bed time.
Now I'm noticing some pants wear due to the magazine and if I keep this up for a few more months, I think I'll trash some pants. I also noticed the magazine collects an amazing amount of pocket lint .
Now I'm thinking about a magazine pouch/carrier for my belt but I really hate to add something else besides the gun and iPhone. Any other ideas for carrying the spare mag?

When I go to that page, it's just a bunch of bare magazines. Supposed to be some type of holder on that page?Carry-a-Kimber wrote:DONE

Click on the mag you have and it takes you to the holster for that mag.tomtexan wrote:When I go to that page, it's just a bunch of bare magazines. Supposed to be some type of holder on that page?Carry-a-Kimber wrote:DONE

Re: Spare magazine wearing out my pockets
Academy has some inexpensive nylon single mag (<$8) pouches w/velcro flap - can be worn on belt, although I just stick in mag and put in front pocket - stays clean an ready to go and no sharp edges to wear on material. I also own single and double stack mag and single / double pouch DeSantis for belt carry (too bulky for pocket carry) for several pistols. If you go for the DeSantis, recommend buying from Opticsplanet or Midway to save on cost rather than direct from DeSantis.

I have used a "universal" knife/mag pouch but lately I carry a spare mag in a Blackhawk mag holder it's OWB I always wear a garment over it.

I have seven rounds in my SA 1911 Lightweight Compact. If the gunfight lasts longer than that, I'm just er,...uh...drilled.

I use an Uncle Mikes's No 3 pocket holster for my spare mag. No lint. But my mags are only 7 rounds. Might check how yous fits.

Re: Spare magazine wearing out my pockets
I've been using these for years. They only last about a year but work great. I use the double pouch version with a mag in one half and my knife on the other. After a while, they start to fray but at >$20.00, one really can't expect much. The flap completely covers the mag.WinoVeritas wrote:Academy has some inexpensive nylon single mag (<$8) pouches w/velcro flap - can be worn on belt, although I just stick in mag and put in front pocket - stays clean an ready to go and no sharp edges to wear on material. The other thing that you might want to consider is that your mags don't really have to be concealed, just the pistol so if you want to carry IWB with spare masgs, a standard belt mag carrier would be perfectly legal. The only people who would even notice are other "gun nuts".

Re: Spare magazine wearing out my pockets
A spare mag is more than just a capacity issue. The most common reason for semiauto malfunctions are magazine issues. A person can find their gunfight is over after they fire just the round in the chamber if something is wrong with their magazine.Oldgringo wrote:I have seven rounds in my SA 1911 Lightweight Compact. It isn't *all about* 'capacity'
I carry a Glock 26 IWB with 18+1 rounds, and a BUG Glock 26 in a pocket with 13+1 rounds,,, and a spare 20 round Glock mag to keep my holster at the correct angle on my belt and in case of magazine malfunction ... the spare mag is for either gun, the 20 round mag is a Glock 17 mag with a +3 base plate ... my hand doesn't work as well when cold, bigger things are easier to grip and find and that size mag keeps my holster cant proper (I use a Tuck This 2 holster where the mag pouch is in front of the holster, so angling it rests the mag base plate on my belt when the gun is angled properly) A Tuck This 2 holster only has 1 belt clip, so the *17-20 round* spare mag helps keep position/cant angle because it's the right size, the shorter mags make the holster more vertical. If either mag malfunctions, I have a spare mag ... having 20 spare rounds/more capacity is just an added benefit if I use up my first 19 rounds and BUG's 14 rounds, which I don't expect will happen.

Couldn't the same be said about the firing pin or the recoil spring or the ejector, etc., etc?Jumping Frog wrote:A spare mag is more than just a capacity issue.
