I've been looking at a lot of posts regarding Duracoat finishes, for over a year now...

Finally decided to put it all to rest and try it out myself.

So, here's my project:



This is the Magpul FDE color.

I have to say, it was harder to set up all the spray gear and to do final cleanup than to actually spray the stuff on.

And, for all of you Duracoat veterans out there, any tips you can provide?

Here's mine: Since the mixing ratio is 12:1, (paint:hardener), I elected to use syringes, large one for the paint, smaller one for the hardener. No muss, no fuss.

Looks very nice. You did a great job!!

You got a beautifully even coat with no drips, thin spots, etc. - all your research clearly paid off.

If you hadn't told us, I'd never have guessed it was your first attempt.

How thoroughly did you clean/degrease it before applying the duracoat? Nice looking job by the way.

Tam, this was one of my 'spare' lowers and uppers. they were both unused. However, I did give them a good dousing of the Duracoat degreaser before I started. Also learned to wipe my latex gloves down to get the powder off of them...

Thanks. Did you take any steps to protect holes where pins go, etc.? Or are you just counting on the pins sort of wearing off the duracoat inside the holes when you push them into their respective holes?

Here is a Duracoat tip I got from one of my customers: you can buy the Preval sprayer (and jar) from Home Depot is you do not have an airbrush and compressor. I bought mine from Lauer but now I know I can buy the Preval sprayer locally in the future I will only buy the paint.

I lightly hit those areas TAM, I'm gonna let it cure a bit longer, then see how the pins fit. If nothing else, it'll be a lesson learned for us all.

Tam, the front and rear pins dropped right in.
