Hay Ya'll,
Any suggestions on a good rig to carry a full size 1911? Not very practical, but I am a large dude. Shouldn't be a problem with the right gear...right?

I have 2 holsters that I use for my 5" 1911.
A crossbreed supertuck which is an In Waist Band holster.
and a Galco On Waist Band leather holster.
The Galco is more comfortable, but harder to conceal without a long, loose shirt. The Crossbreed is a little more uncomfortable but easier to conceal.
Just my opinion on the matter....holsters are like guns or cars. What fits me may not work for you. Unfortunately, you'll probably wind up with lots of holsters before you find what works best for you.

I thought you were a Glock guy!
Did you get a 1911? What did you get?
A lot of people carry a 5" 1911 IWB. I personally carry mine in a Galco OWB CON212B holster.

Are you talking to me or the OP?
If you're asking me, I owned 2 Rock Island 1911s before I ever bought a Glock.
Still have my 5" 1911....but the Glock is just lighter/easier to carry.

I just realized you might think that.....LOL.
I edited my post and added a quote. Sorry for confusion!

Presently I carry a G26, or my full size Springfield 1911 (worked over by Teddy Jacobson). I am fairly new to Concealed carry....not new at all to shooting. My actions by T Springfield chewed a 3" ragged hole on my qualifier. Love that gun!

I use a Crossbreed Super Tuck for my 3" Kimber 1911. It is the second Crossbreed holster I own. Luckily I found Crossbreed before I bought a box full of ones I don't like!

I carry mine in a couple of different holsters. I Milt Sparks SS2 knockoff (leather) and a hybrid from Kurtis Baker
http://www.shieldedholsters.com/inventory/item.php?id=7" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; called the Double Phalanx..
I really like the one from Kurtis, I ordered mine and he sent me a text and told me that he was behind, to please bear with him, that he was behind on his 1911 forms.. Sure, no problem.
The holster was in my hands in 9 days..
Here is a 42 page thread about Kurtis and his holster sales on Glocktalk.. (don't worry, he makes em for other pistols as well..)

Kurtis does good work. I have 2 phalanx holsters from him and couldn't be happier. His turnaround time is fantastic as well.

My favorite holster is an el paso saddlery high-side. I also use an epsaddlery MOB and an Alessi shoulder holster.
I am not a huge guy - 160 lbs, 5' 8" - more or less - and have no problems carrying a full size or commander.

Galco Concealable Belt Holster:

I have one for my 5" Springfield. It is a very comfortable and solidly made holster. It is designed to sort of "wrap around" your waist rather than dig into it.

TAM, you have good taste in that CON212H. My CON212B is the same but Black.
I have had several custom holsters, but I always seem to go back to the Galco as it is the most comfortable for me.
I have the same holster in different lengths (diff Mod numbers) for all my 1911's, including my EMP 9mm.

I have tried a couple different holsters for my 1911 and for IWB carry a Remora or Comp-Tac Spartan work really well for me.
