Looking for Houston area Gun shop that does layaway

#1

Post by MadDawg »

Anyone in the Houston area know of any gun shops local that do like 90 day layaway on rifles and handguns. I'm in the market for a DPMS LR-308 and a Glock 21, 27 and these things are not cheap.

Thanks,

MadDawg,

Are those firearms fairly rare? Or are they current production and realtive easy to find?

If they are readily available... Maybe considering just saving for 90 days and then buy it w/o the layaway?

Layaway seems to only make sense if you can get a decent discount or if the product isn't going to be around much longer.

Collectors Firearms used to offer that service. Don't know if they still do it or not, it's been a while since I actually purchased a firearm from that store.

And j1132s made good points. The guns are all current production and can be ordered at any time. So unless you are getting a significant discount and you need to lock in the price, save your pennies in the bank and earn interest on them yourself rather than letting the dealer get a interest free loan out of you.
When you take the time out of your day to beat someone, it has a much longer lasting effect on their demeanor than simply shooting or tazing them.

These folks just recently got into the gun business.....they have excellent prices and layaway available. Very nice selection of handguns. Good luck.

The four Carters Country locations do layaway.

Pasadena
Southwest Fwy
Katy Fwy
Treashwig Rd (north)

They also have a 12 month free-finance program that runs at various times through the year. (No interest charged if paid off inside the 12 mos)

They run weekly ads on Thursday in the Chronicle. Each ad is valid for two weeks, so there are always two active ads. Their regular prices are often too high, but sale prices are often competitive.

I totally agree...And their prices are fairly decent...So a layway is a good way to smooth out the costs over a period of time if the money is tight...

Thanks for the tips and locations. I would agree that saving is best, and one of my weakest abilities. I have one heck of a time saving. I'm very bad at it. If it was not for 401K and payroll deduction for a savings I'd be a man with guns with no ammo and no retirement.

Haha.. Seriously, thanks for the pointers and if ther are other places out there let me know.

Prodefense does layaway and we can get the DPMS LR-308AP4. I bought one last wednsday. Finally got to shoot it yesterday. If you come by let me know, I work there. The AP4 runs $1089.95. I think it came out to $1179.87 with tax.

Thanks, and will highly consider it as this is the model I'm looking for. Can you PM details and how there layaway works?

Cheers

Tomball Pawn in Tomball TX does layaway. They can order anything you want and they have reasonable prices.

Champion Firearms in College Station TX has layaway and a financing plan also. They have very good prices and can get just about anything, if they don't already have one! They have a big inventory.

Good luck! Regards, OE

Shooters Corner in Texas City will also do LayAway Their prices are about $25 a gun more than Elite but they also have gunsmithing services.

T's Guns & Ammo, on Palmer Highway in Texas City, also offers layaway. I've bought three guns from them through layaway. Layaway is a good deal to me, because if I try to save the money, I will spend it!

Collector's does a 20% down and 90 days to pay off the balance. Their a bit too pricey IMHO but they do have some nice deals every now and then.
