New to me Revolvers
Last month my Grandfather passed away leaving me some pretty cool guns. One of the rifles was a Winchester Model 1894 built in 1917 that is still a thing of beauty. He also left me 3 pistols. A Colt Trooper MK III .357mag and a Yin and Yang pair of Colt Detective Specials .38. One nickel and one blue. My EDC is a Kimber Ultra CDPII and sometimes a Glock 23 so admitedly I have very little time spent with a revolver. I grabbed the Blue Detective Spec and the Trooper MK III and went to the range today. Man are these guns fun to shoot! That 357 is a cannon and both pistols are dead on at 7-10 yards. It took a little adjustment in grip but I felt like I had been shooting revolvers all my life after about 30 rounds in each gun.
I am now in the process of trying to find out how old these pistols actually are... My Dad seems to think the Trooper is 50 or so years old. Very cool stuff.

Very cool! I love my revolvers. If you think that a Colt Trooper sized pistol in .357 is a cannon, try shooting a 13 oz scandium j-framed snubbie in .357. It will give you pause.....Munk wrote:That 357 is a cannon....

I always have carried a semiautomatic, but I dearly love the sound and feel of a revolver being loaded and cocked for firing. There's a feel to a revolver that just adds an extra element of fun to the shooting experience. Enjoy those gems!

Re: New to me Revolvers
If it's a Mark III Trooper it has the shrouded ejector and they were built starting in late 1969/70... (Colt made a Trooper model prior to that without the shrouded ejector). The Detective Specials are also identified by the ejector shroud. The exposed ejector rod model was built from the 1920's to 1972...72 and later models had the shrouded ejector. They are really well built revolvers.

Very cool! All 3 are shrouded but the serial #'s not the Det. specials are strange. I'll check them again tomorrow and see if i can find a specific year. Sweet shooting pistols for sure! Thanks for the info talltex!

Here's a website that should help you find the age.Munk wrote: I am now in the process of trying to find out how old these pistols actually are... My Dad seems to think the Trooper is 50 or so years old. Very cool stuff.
