A few days ago I decided to purchase some 12 gauge dummy rounds for reloading training. I finally decided on the Fiocchi brand. I placed an order through midwesthuntersoutlet.com because they had the best price. Before I confirmed my order, I noticed that they had added a $5.00 "ammo hazmat surcharge" to the order. I sent the order through anyway because it was still an okay deal, and I was tired of shopping around. Afterwards, I sent them the following message through their "contact us" form (I have removed my own name for privacy):

Hi,
I just placed an order for some dummy ammo, which is as inert and even less dangerous than the pencil on my desk in front of me. The shipping for this item ended up being $7.99, which I assume is the sum of the standard $2.99 non-firearm shipping fee plus a $5.00 ammo hazmat surcharge. However, these dummy rounds do not contain any gunpowder or primers and therefor do not qualify as hazardous materials. Can you please remove the ammo hazmat surcharge from my order?
Thanks

An employee named Kevin replied at start of business the next morning:

Hello,
We are sorry for the mix up on that, we have gone ahead and took off that surcharge on the order. Thank you for pointing that out to us.

Sweet! Just goes to show that it never hurts to ask! In retrospect, I think I came off as kind of rude.
