New Gun Suggestions

#1

Post by reeder05 »

Howdy All!!

Well I am relatively new to the forum.... (currently playing the waiting game)

Anyways, currently I have a Para Slim Hawg in .45 (1911 3" barrell). I really like the gun, it shoots nice, fits to the hand, but it is a piece of METAL!!

So I figure, why not buy another gun? Two EDCs is better than one right? That way I can have options.

I am looking for a compact - sub compact gun, chambered in 9mm, that has a manual safety. I really like the Walther PP99C, as I can load one in the chamber, hit the decock button, and carry with a DA. I like the feel of the XD Subcompact, but correct me if I am wrong, it does not have a manual safety.

Going to the gun show this weekend, anybody have any suggestions based on the above criteria that I should look into?

Thanks in advance!!

before i moved to the dark side (glock), i had a beretta px4 storm in 9mm. Very good gun, da/sa with safety and de-cocker and great ergonomics.

I really like the Beretta 92 Compact L, they are available at Academy.

Right now only the XD .45acp service model has a thumb safety + grip safety.

the XD 9mms don't have the thumb safety, but do have the grip safety.

Beretta 92 Compact L I like, if they'd put the safety where it belonged like Taurus did

The Beretta px4 storm felt good in my hand at Academy, so I left the store really really fast before I bought one and had to retrain my thumb.

The Smith and Wesson M&P9c can be had with a thumb safety. In fact the SKU # for that model is 206304.

how about a smith wesson 3rd gen. like a 3913tsw or 3914tsw. you would have to hunt but they can be found. they have manual decockers and you can shoot it single or double action.

+1 on the XD.I've got all three calibers in the safe -- 9mm, .40 and .45 ACP. Fantastic weapons all.

However, when it comes to carry, there's nothing like a good Glock!

Thanks all. I am going to have to take a further look into the Berettas and the MP.

Never been much of a Glock fan. I know they make great stuff, but I have never been able to shoot one very well. I know that is all operator error, but I can't seem to get used to the angle of the grip.

You might also look at HK's. Both the USP compact and the P2000 can be had with a thumb safety.

Looks like the XD question was answered. I have an XDm 9 and LOVE it. I will be attempting to carry it in the future (getting a crossbreed supertuck and gun belt for my birthday this year).

As for recommendations, I have shot my Dads FNH FNP-9 and like it as well. Same guys that make the FiveseveN pistol. Thumb safety (ambi), decocker(abmi), DA/SA, reversible mag release, and changable back straps. Comes with 3x 16 round magazines. Also shares the same grip angle with the XDs and 1911s. I think a Glock is a fine weapon, just don't like the feal for the grip. They also have a FNX-9 out now. Successor to the FNP-9 I believe.

I have also shot a Taurus 24/7 Pro numerous times. Not a bad gun. Has the safety and DA/SA. Don't remember if it had a decocker. Been over a year and a half since I shot it. Didn't like the trigger on it as much as I liked the trigger on the FNP-9.
