Well I've been wanting a Government size steel framed GI type 1911 for quite some time. Decided to give the Remington 1911R1 a closer look. The price was right and y'all know the rest.

The fit and finish seem to be great, no play in slide to frame fit, dovetail front and rear sights and lowered/flared ejection port.

Now the question is do I leave it bone stock or start hot rodding it??

beautiful! Keep it stock. Everyone needs at least 1 1911A1 style, no frills, basic gun.

I'd shoot it a while as is, and if it shoots well, carry it. THEN I'd let it tell me what if anything it needs.

Better yet, we can meet and you can let me carry it for a while and if I decide that it needs some mods, I'll bring it back to you so you can add them

what is wrong with the factory slide stop?
a 1 piece guide rod is a down grade IMO.

Take it to the range and wring it out a few times before you make any decisions.

Make sure to take several regular sized band-aids with you on your first trip. If you're one of the unfortunate ones (like me) that gets "hammer bite", you're going to want a band-aid to pad the web of your strong hand. Also, you'll know you need to either bob the hammer spur or change to a combat hammer & beavertail.

It's definately getting shot in stock form for a while.

Not a lefty but I like ambi safety so when I shoot weakhand it can be easily engaged/dis-engaged. And yes I'm aware that you can manuver your weakhand thumb to use a standard safety.

Slide release if changed will be changed to a slighly larger variety to aide in quick usage.

Trigger at this moment leaves a little to be desired but is bearable, mind you this is with a snap cap and a brand new pistol.

Beautiful piece. I agree on leaving it alone. You can always get another 1911 with all frills n thrills for very cheap, but that one deserves to be left alone.

Shot 120 rounds through it this weeked. Had one failure to feed on the last round of the first magazine. Other than that one hiccup she ran great and is a blast to shoot.

I'm not a 1911 guy so I don't know, but what is that Remington tool used for that is in the first picture? It looks kinda like an old style bottle opener.

Its a barrel lug wrench for take down.
