buying guns at academy

What is the experience of buying guns at Academy? I don't like the idea of having my personal information stored in some big corporation's database. Do they record all information from 4473 in their computer system or just leave it on paper?

By law the 4473 is supposed to be treated like a tax document, so legally they can not keep a record of its contents beyond the 4473 itself. Any other documents they require you to fill out they can treat however they please.

I agree but it's probably too late.
I'm sure our personal info is already out there more than we'd like it to be. It's hard to stay off the grid these days.

take some patience and besure to question their policy on escorting people out of the store after buying a gun when carrying one concealed into the store.lol

I like Academy, they usually have fair prices on ammo, camping gear, and clothes. That said, I would NEVER buy a firearm there. From what I heard it takes anywhere from 2 hours to all day to complete a firearms transaction there. I prefer to buy online and do a transfer through a forum member, or use the classifieds on the forum.

I have purchased several guns at Academy, never taken longer than 20 minutes.

I agree about it being trouble free. Their prices are good to fair and yeah they walk you out, but that is their company policy and I am okay with it as long as their prices stay good.

In particular, the one in Rosenberg has a good gun staff who are always courteous and willing to answer questions. I have always received prompt service from them and will not hesitate to buy there again.

I 2nd the Rosenberg store, I live just down the street and everyone I have dealt with has been very nice.
On the form question, they have to store and keep the form the same as every other FFL out there does. I would not think Academy as a corporation is more or less trustworthy than my local fun store would be.

I have bought two guns at Academy, both have taken less than 30 min after I decided I was going to purchase something. They have fair prices imo.

I buy my ammo and supplies from them. I've been escorted to the cashier with an ammo purchase. They are convenient, seem to have low prices and have a better supply of ammo than Walmart.
How long will Walmart continue to sell ammo do you think?
As far as guns, they seem to carry the guns everyone else has, and my taste seems to run to the odd and unusual. So no probably not.

I buy a lot of firearms at Academy. They have some of the best prices IMO. It never takes me anymore than 15 to 20 minutes.
I highly doubt they farm data from the 4473's.
