I hate to, but, yes I can believe it. Wonder if that one was staged.
Carry 24-7 or guess right.

I am really afraid that both may be staged to the same extent. I assure you I am not qualified to handle a hand gun with his expertice.
Careful look at the circled incert looks like the hammer may be in single action mode also. Appears to be a blur against the background of the post. Finger on the trigger. That guy don't have any thing up there to blow out.

Some things should never be staged just because they are irresponsible. If it is staged the actors border on irresponsible to the same degree as the actors if it is not staged.

I think you're being a bit over-cautious.longtooth wrote:Some things should never be staged just because they are irresponsible. If it is staged the actors border on irresponsible to the same degree as the actors if it is not staged.
Every movie, every stage production, every firearms and/or self-defense training video that shows both safe and unsafe gun usage, takes certain precautions.
Do you know that the "ATF" guy is holding an actual firearm? If it is an actual firearm, do you know what safety precautions have been taken? Do you consider them less adequate than the safety precautions taken on movie sets every day of the year?
C'mon, lighten up. It's obviously a staged photo, designed to poke fun at the ATF and their poor knowledge of firearms. Most of us here could recreate the same photo in perfect safety.
The mantras of gun safety are good things. But there are times that we know a gun truly is unloaded, at which point it's nothing more than a short club. At such time, feel free to point it at your head for a silly photo, if you wish.

I sure am glad you did post. This thread not only provided a a good laugh. It also provided a thought exercise. Longtooths reaction about staging such a shot is understandable.DaveT wrote:My apologies to all.
Sure didn't mean to start a ruckus when I posted the pic.
Staged or not, it just appeared to be a good conversation starter because there is so much obviously wrong.
The rules aren't just something that we learn, but really take to heart. They become instictive and compliance automatic. We not only live and follow these rules, but expect others around us to follow them strictly. Photographs such as the one posted are going to cause us pause. Even knowing they are posed we might wonder how much horseplay is involved.
KBCraig reminds us that such staging occurs safely all the time. I at one time was active in war re-enactments. If these things are done under very strict guidelines, and safety is foremost in everything staging (or acting can be very safe. I believe Longtooth understands this.
At any rate posting this picture provided enterainment, and some discussion about safety. Thats a good thing.
Thank you.
