9mm Colt Combat Commander Update:

Started with this

Today:
FedEx delivered the parts I sent to "Black T"!

Can't say enough for their customer service. Great price and quick turnaround of less than 6 weeks.

Everything looks great (frame, slide, mainspring cover, and grip safety), so it's off to Gary Dean for reassembly and fitting the Ed Brown stainless parts.

Pics and a range report soon cuz this Colt's gonna get smoked!

I just found it online in a forum classified somewhere.

It turned out to be a little rougher than I anticipated, but 9mm Commanders are relatively rare, and rough ones are really hard to find.

It's serving it's purpose well so far.

Well, it came out beautifully! I'd love to come across a nice 1911 fixer-upper and get it looking as beautiful as yours! :thumbs2:

Hey Doc,

That thing is fantastic...very well done. Not overly done...just right.

I really dig the early "stubby" grip safeties that the commanders had. It's good to see someone put one of these together without putting a huge beavertail on every time.

Is the finish a matte hot blue or something else?

The late Walter Birdsong had treated me so well when I called in about his "Black T" finish, when I heard he passed away a few months ago I decided I wanted his finish on it.

It's an excellent finish, but I did it equally out of respect for the man who invented it.

Man, that turned out to be one beautiful 1911 there Doc. Great job!! Now you got me wanting to find an old beat up one for a project gun. :thumbs2:

Also, nice Snap-On screwdriver handle there in the trigger guard; looks just like the ones I have.

You have done a fantastic job and have great taste in your firearms. Grats on a good looking project and I hope it shoots better than it looks.
