How Long Since You Have Been To The Range To Practice ?

#1

Post by bigolbigun »

I thought I would throw out this question and see how long it has been since you took your daily carry weapon to the range for some practice? I know many members on here practice weekly or at least once a month.

I hate to admit it but, I realized this morning that it has been 8 months since I have done any range work. I have a myriad of reasons and excuses of why I have not found the time to go and practice. I have thought about it, or planned to go several times but for whatever reason I have not made it to the range. It seems like something else always comes up. I feel it is a disservice to myself and my family that I have not been practicing and improving my carry and shooting skills. My personal protection, and that of my family is why I carry in the first place.

So feel free to "let me have it" for my lack of practice. Or share with me how you are able to squeeze range time into your busy schedule.

I'm right there with you, Big, about things getting in the way. However, while it has only been a little over two months for me that is still too long. A couple of years ago I used to go every 4-6 weeks.

I'm new to CHL, new to owning a handgun, so I've been trying to get to the range once a week. I went to the range yesterday. I'm pretty excited - it was the first time to try one handed shooting. With my right hand, I'm almost as good as two handed, but my left hand needs a bunch of work (strengthening first).

Once per month is about all I can squeze into my schedule. Because of that, I've come to view "range time" as a way to validate my practice instead of practice itself.

Other than launching projectiles down range and experiencing recoil, everything else can be done in the comfort of your home or back yard. It's like taking a class in college...for every hour you spend on the range, spend three hours at home practicing.

It's been to long for me. Last summer I was shooting weekly. The last time I shot was in November.

But that's about to change. ;-)

Too Long, about 8 days. But with the cold weather and all I have plenty of excuses. :nono:

The weather has been extremely frustrating for me. It seems to always get wet and sloshy on the weekend when I have time (or when a match is scheduled). It's only been a week for me. I start to get range fever if it gets to be about a month and I haven't fired a weapon.

Between PSC and Thunder, there's a Women's program or match I could go to every weekend if my schedule and the weather cooperate.

Two days ago. Had to miss yesterday and today due to the rain creating a marsh like environment at the range.

I try to go once a month.
I like to try new and more advanced techniques each time , many of which I learned right here on the forum.

Compvest, you should really rethink not practicing just because of those conditions. Marsh-like environments are great training grounds in case you ever have to protect yourself from attacking Big Foot in the bayous of Louisiana!!! :thumbs2:
