SmartCarry Update

So, I've been using the SmartCarry for about a year and a half now. Here's an update.

1. Quality and Workmanship: A+
It's showing signs of wear on the front and back like a pair of bluejeans, and the stretch bands are shriveling up a bit, but it still gets the job done. That wear spot on the backside bottom is not even close to wearing through. The soft white fabric is worn through, but whatever they use as a liner is unfazed. Even with the wear patterns it appears that it will last several more years.

2. Concealability: A+
It just ain't there to anyone but me even with a Bianchi speed strip.

3. Practicality: B+
It is what it is: not a fast draw, but a compromised reasonable draw. I can draw, point and shoot within about 3 seconds.

4. Comfort: A+
Even with the steel-frame Colt DS I often forget it's there. It's that comfortable even when sitting or squatting.

5. Safety: A+
It does point at my privates and even when sitting it lays across the top of the thigh, not pointing at any bodypart except, maybe the top of one's foot. At no time has my revolver moved, begun to cycle, or had a hammer cock and drop. Ain't gonna happen with a revolver (which is why I carry a revolver in it).

The old man in Florida has done his homework and is producing a superior deep cover carry.

Couldn't be happier with it.

You should call about it wearing that hole through. It shouldn't do that.

I didn't have such good luck with my Smart Carry. I use it when I'm wearing overalls or am in a tux or something and know I'll be taking off my jacket but I've never considered it comfortable. It works just as advertised and is extremely well made but I can't use it for everyday carry.

I think it has more to do with my build than anything else. I have heavy thighs but I'm not fat at all. As a result, even with relaxed fit jeans, which is the only thing I can wear, there's just not enough room "in there" for a pistol.

For the price though, I don't regret my decision to get one for one second. It's like any holster, it just needs to be tried. Chances are it will do tghe trick.

Yep, it's not for every body type and every situation.

And only the soft, cloth fabric is worth through. The layer under it is reinforced and just fine. I'm good with it and will continue to wear it until it fails for reasons not obvious now.

I guess I have had mine nearly a year. I have not used it often. I kind of think that if you are carrying with elastic-waist pants of any kind (sweats, shorts, etc.) then this is the answer. I even use mine sometimes when carrying with jeans and I am just not wearing a belt. But with my body type and wardrobe (that is, I'm not super lean but not really fat, 5'11" 180lb), it creates a noticeable odd bulge that anybody could notice. I suspect more people notice when I am carrying with the SC than when I carry 4:00 IWB but they just don't ask me about it because of the location of the bulge. I also find the SC uncomfortable when sitting, pretty much unusable if I am going to be sitting for long periods. I should point out that I am carrying a Kahr CW9 in it, so the sharper edges compared to a revolver may be part of the issue.

If I could make it anything I wanted, I would get rid of the elastic altogether and go with a regular nylon/poly "belt". Actually I think if I had one of these that just had spring clips on the ends to clip to your pants waist band instead of its own belt/band then I would use it about 10x as often.

In the end I guess I am glad I bought it. I got it second-hand (although not really "used") for like 1/2 of the new price and for that price it is ok. But I carry daily in my FIST K3 which is far more comfortable, easier to get on and off, and more concealable.

I've had one now for about two years, and only complaint is that te elastic bands have weakend and my 1911A hangs a little low. Since we don't have much in the way of winter here in TX I'm usually wearing shorts (elastic waist band), and T shirts. Works well with this attire. But I will not wear it with jeans, or dress pants, just too hard to get to.
