I'm looking to pick up a quality pocket knife soon. I'm interested in input from the folks that know more than I on the subject (which would be most folks here).

Here's my criteria.

Quality - want it to last a lifetime with good care.
Seraded Blade
Assisted Opening - but legal by Texas law.
Pocket Clip
Folding

Kershaw Blur sounds like a great knife for you. I don't own one, but I would like to change that someday.

My daily carry is a Kershaw mdl 1620H3 (Ken Onion design). Wally World for $34.00. Meets all your requirements with the exception of the serrated blade. I prefer the non-serrated version. In any case, I have owned a number of Kershaws over the years and have never had one that I disliked.

I opted for the non-assisted blade because of the cost.

Man! Losts of love for the Kershaw here! But I can't disagree with any of them. I, too, personally carry the Kershaw Blur designed by Ken Onion (non-serrated version). It is a great knife, which you can buy at your local Wal-Mart. They also carry a serrated tanto-blade version, which you can see here.

It is a good knife for everyday chores, but also a well thought out defensive tool.

The blade is thick enough to survive serious use, the shape of the blade has a "belly" (good for cutting with a draw stroke), the spring assist feature is positive and fast, the clip can be moved to permit carry with the blade tip up or down....whichever you prefer, the handle has a non-slip surface and is shaped to facilitate a reverse grip. I like it!

I'm a huge Kershaw Blackout AOpen fan. I had that knife for years and years until I lost it :(.


I then decided to go the Benchmade MINI RUKUS rout and will never look back!!! The Benchmade Mini-Rukus Auto is way better than my Kershaw. It opens much stronger than the Kershaw ever did.

Keep in mind you will pay 150 - 170 for the Mini Rukus Auto

I'm gonna put in a vote for Gerber. I personally have and love Gerber, Case, Buck, and Kershaw knives. I have never owned a Benchmade but have heard nothing but good about them.

I am a Spyderco fan all the way. They make great knives in configurations for anything. You can pick up a Spyderco Native from Wally World for $40 and have a great S30V steel blade. It is not assisted opening, but bank for the buck sure is nice! They make alot of high end knives as well so I am sure you could find something that suits your needs.

I'd go with a Benchmade... like the apparition, which fits all of your specifications. i've got a couple Benchmades, including the apparition... and you can't beat them... PERIOD. I have Spyderco's, Kershaw's, and countless others, but nothing comes close.

Benchmade Osborne 940!!! The greatest knife I have ever carried or held. It was $140 but worth every penny. I love this thing. It is sleak and very easy to carry around daily. I also own a mini-Rukus and a Grippilian- both are excellent but the Osborne is #1 in my book. You can't beat their SV30 steel. A lot of $1000+ custom knives are made out of the same stuff.
