SIG Sauer P238 Raffle Win - Range report

I won a raffle for a SIG Sauer P238.380 from Academy in December (it's actually a gift card) and have been looking for one ever since with no success. Quite some time ago when we were looking for a .380 for my wife she narrowed her choices to this pistol and a Glock 42. I wanted her to get the SIG, but she chose the Glock. I enjoyed shooting the little SIG, but wouldn't have purchased one had I not won the raffle. I had almost given up looking until things settle down for gun sales, but I had an idle moment this morning, so I took a look on Academy's website and found one. Only one in stock at Pearland West Academy store. I have been there and done that with Academy only to travel to a store and discover they don't do a good job of accurately reflecting inventory on the web. BUT low and behold I got there and there it was in the display case. Clerk said it hadn't been there long and it had no handling wear so I snapped it up. The SIG catalog lists the Academy model with contrast sights, but they are actually equipped with night sights front and rear. The only thing I can do at home is check the basic functions and trigger pull. There is some take up on the trigger, but the let off is crisp with no over travel. The pull is less than desirable on my Wheeler gauge at almost 8 lbs, but it doesn't feel that hard when I pull it with my trigger finger. I don't know what options there are for adjustments other than honing like a 1911. This photo is from Academy. I will try to get to the range sooner than later to see how it shoots and give some details here. BTW The only other thing I've ever won was free dance lessons at an Arthur Murray studio when I was a kid.

A birthday present BUG! Cool!
I've never won any firearm or component for a firearm, either. I stopped bothering to register for major manufacturer online giveaways, like Stag Arms. I'd been
hoping... Last thing related that I won was a nice CRKT folder for coming in 2nd place in the final qualifier of a firearms class. Still use the knife, though.

Nice win
Thanks, Andy. I've always liked .380's and the P238 reminds me of the Llama III .380, mini 1911, I bought back in the 1960's. Much better quality in the SIG of course.

Very much!
I did have to add a flat trigger to my similar 938 to extend the reach a bit which was worthwhile...

Something interesting to note:
For the 9mm P938 I have, I'd converted a Sig P320 8-round magazine 3.5 years ago to get an additional round:
I found out last week that the
Kimber Micro 9 (9mm) 8-round magazine fits the P938 perfectly, so I ordered one off eBay for $30 shipped - and blow me down, it fits/locks perfectly. I'll shoot it before carrying it, naturally, but I was wondering if there might be something similar for the P238 you have...

Is that the Kimber mag in the photo? If so what is the tape for? I found a Kimber Micro .380 7 round factory mag for $22. The photo comparisons look the same, so I think I'll will try it.

No, the tape was me using the 938 mag as a template and transferring it to the 320 mag, using the holes to line it up so I knew where to cut the mag-release slot.
Much simpler to buy a mag that already fits/locks in - I hope yours does.

I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the heads up, BTW. I love it when guys think out of the box and share.

The Kimber magazine fits and cycles perfectly, with the exception I have to depress the mag release to seat it. The factory mag hangs a-bit and I have to tap it to seat with my palm, so it may be a breakin issue. Definitely like the cost of $21 free shipping for the Kimber factory mag VS $44-50 for the SIG factory mag. The true test of course will be at the range when I get the chance to go. Thanks for your suggestion.
