I'm considering one of the Alien Gear belts. I am a little concerned about the steel reinforcement, though. Will it by itself cause more "hits" when going through metal detectors? Even when the pistol, magazines, and holster are removed - such as when one has business at the Federal Building - that's a big cross-section of ferrous material for the metal detector. Does anyone have any experience with that?

The last time I went through, they hit on my safety shoes. I try to avoid triggering the questions when I can, preferring not to distract the guards from watching for actual bad guys.
The sooner I get behind, the more time I have to catch up.

Over the years, I've had a number of gun belts.

The very best one so far, is the elephant hide gun belt I bought from the "The Belt Man".

It's gorgeous and does a wonderful job as a gun belt.

I ordered an Alien Gear belt and holster combo on 1/13. It's supposed to deliver tomorrow. I'll give my first impressions on Friday.

Took longer than I expected to deliver, I guess they probably had a backlog of orders. In October I ordered a pair of holsters, one for me and one for a Christmas gift, and they were both delivered in 8 days.

I ordered the AG belt, according to Customer service it is supposed to ship on 2/23 so will be able to review it soon. I also ask CS if Big Foot and AG were related and she said they had the same owners. Same belt, same people making it, BF has a couple more options than AG. This will be my first real gun belt so will only be able to compare to my regular belt.

I received mine, and am very impressed with it's quality. As allisji said, it did take longer than expected.

I'm actually wearing mine from AG for the first time today and like it so far. It's no Italian leather, but it's sharp looking and holds the weight of my gun/holster very well. I'm pleased so far.

I got mine in about a week ago. It is incredibly thick, but I guess just as thick as any double layer gun belt. I am one hole off of center so I maybe ordered a tad small. It is pretty comfortable and I don't imagine this ever wearing out. It is a very chocolate brown - I had expected it to be a little more shiny tan. If you look more closely you can see a slight indentation probably from where the internal stiffener is. For the money it is not bad. I would not hesitate to wear it as a dress belt/tucked in, though it will not fit through the belt loops on my suit pants.

I'm wearing mine today. My initial reaction is that it seems to be an Ok belt, but I'm not super impressed with the quality. The leather feels a little like cardboard and I clipped on my High Noon single clip IWB holster and the edge of the belt got a little shear force applied to it and started to fray. The inside of the loop where the buckle attaches is not dyed and is visible from the front, so I will probably color it black with a marker or some shoe polish or something.

I have never had a nice leather gunbelt to compare it too. But I can compare it to my 1.5" carhartt Detroit Belt that I've had for about a decade. And the carhartt belt seems to have better materials and better construction and is only $35.00. In other words, at this point I would say that the alien gear belt isn't worth near $60. Maybe I'll change my mind and re-review after a few months if it seems to take the time and abuse better than I expect.

I got a black one was considering getting a brown as well, but having checked out my black one I think I will probably have to pay up for a Beltman next.

I wonder if you just got a bad one? They claim a 7 day test drive on their website. You might try calling them to see if they will send you a replacement.

Good idea, I'll wear it through the weekend and give them a call next week if I don't warm up to it.... especially if I have trouble with the edges coming apart...

Since this post got bumped up to the top again, would you mind giving us an update on the AG belt?

Only issue I've found is that it's too wide to wear with my slacks and khakis that I wear for work. I plan to order a narrower belt from them this week, to wear at work. (I can't carry at work, but I have my holstered gun in the car and put it on after work.)

I love Hanks! 100 year warranty and made by Amish craftsmen. Excellent belt that does exactly what it's meant to do.

Also recommend Hanks belts. Excellent craftsmanship, and Hanks customer service is outstanding.

I wear mine everyday with or without a gun. I have been impressed with the quality, although I do not have another to compare it too, I really like this belt. It does make a difference in carrying an IWB holstered gun and extra Mag. I am glad I made the purchase. Back in February they were slow at processing the order but it has been worth the wait. I purchased through AG but Big Foot Gun Belts is a sister company and has a couple of other options if you go through them.

I've worn it several times a week since then and almost every day now. It has had no further damage. It's holding up very nicely. The only thing about it is that it is so thick that my high noon holster with a metal clip barely can get around the belt. I think that that is what was causing the damage to it in the first place. My alien gear and comptac holsters all clip onto it perfectly. Overall, it's a good belt for the price. I wouldn't mind getting a brown one.
