Kimber service is great, as far as I am concerned. I've told this story a number of times here before, but long story short, My Stainless Ultra came from the factory with a "defective" slide stop lever. The pistol would lock the slide back on a full magazine all the time, and this was on my first range trip, a day or two after I bought the gun. I brought my concern here to this forum, and someone (I've forgotten who) told me that this was a known issue and to phone Kimber about it, and they would send me a replacement drop-in part. I phoned, and did send the part. I had it in hand just a few days later, perhaps a week or so after my initial purchase of the gun. This pistol has run perfectly ever since, to the tune of perhaps 1,500 rounds, possibly more. (I don't bother logging a round count for most of my guns. I just keep a sort of mental tally.)

The reason I put the word "defective" into quote marks in the previous paragraph, is that my son's PT1911 broke the slide stop lever pin right in half at the barrel link, at less than 1,000 rounds into the gun's life. I happened to have the "defective" Kimber part with me in the gun's case. We popped it into the Taurus and went back to shooting. Today, more than a year later, that defective Kimber part is still functioning perfectly in that Taurus pistol.

WEC wrote:IMHO, I find that most Kimbers are great buys and worth every penny you spend on them. Generally Kimbers are divided into Series I and Series II. The Series II weapons introduce an additional firing pin (also known as a Swartz) safety. Kimber was also producing early series II weapons with external extractors, but those were extremely problematic and Kimber eventually went back to internal safeties. In fact, one of my old Kimbers did have an external extractor that gave me tons of problems, so I sent it to Kimber America, who replaced the entire slide with one that has an internal safety. The gun was flawless after that. So as long as the Kimber you're planning on buying has an internal extractor, my opinion is buy away and be glad you did. Good luck!

I have a Kimber Tactical Custom II with an external extractor and have had NO issues with it. I purchased it used and I have put at least another 500 rounds through it since I've had it.
I'm also the one who traded the Eclipse Pro II to you! That's the one I was describing that needed to be sent back to Kimber for the internal extractor exchange. No problems since then, right? :thumbs2:
Nope! Other than adjusting to the trigger pull when I switch from my others during a range session. I love and and was drooling over an Eclipse Target Sunday while staying dry at Cabela's from the race by Ft Worth. I tried to sell the one I have with an external extractor, but nobody wants it because of that. I'm sure Kimber doesn't want me wasting their time with it if it is working fine though.

I have a 2 year old Custom II that is my EDC, and aside from a magazine related issue (cramming 8 into the factory 8-round mag. I just load 7+1 now), I have had no problems. It always goes :fire and always locks back on empty - never before.

What do they say on eBay? Recommended! A+++++++++

My Kimber CDP II will do pretty much anything that my $2k+ Ed Brown Special Forces will. I dearly love my SF, but am willing to carry the Kimber. Excellent product and value. Only (small) complaint is the added complexities of the take-down (since it does indeed need to be cleaned every 1000 rounds or so.)
Professional Training, Competition, Risk Avoidance, Situational Awareness, Tactical Mindset, 100,000+ rounds down range - the hardware is the least important part of the equation...
